Found a Mahogany F style mandolin last week at a local music store. It's a Bean Blossom by Morgan Monroe. I love the satin finish and wood grain look. It sounds and plays really good. Nice chop to it. I kind of want to put a pickguard on it and maybe a cast tailpiece though. Solid Mahogany top back and sides.
I need to buy a Mando this month for a gig on July 4th. I keep hoping that the Gretsch roots collection will hit the shelves. I wasn't familiar with Morgan Monroe before. I'm definitely going to check them out.
Thanks!
From what I've read the Loar, Kentucky, and Morgan Monroe seem to bee good Mandos for the money if you're lookin at under $700 range. And Eastman too. I wish I had the money for a nice Eastman, the one I played the other day was unbelievable.
I'm jealous. I've been mando shopping, but haven't found anything that really appealed to me yet. Congrats on a good score.

Are you kidding me, Doug? You're just a stone's throw away from Janet Davis Music in Bentonville! That place is bluegrass heaven! If you can't fine a decent mando there, then you ain't lookin'.
Thanks guys, and thanks especially to MarGarcia, because yes indeed you had a part in acquiring this mando.
This thing does bark, has a great chop to it. I think I'm going to upgrade the tailpiece to a cast tailpiece and get an armrest for it, and maybe upgrade the bridge to a cumberland bridge, and get a pickguard. Can't leave well enough alone!
I have a show with Old Hat, my folkin-bluegrassycountrypunkn' band, next week. Lookin forward to playing this mando.
I fitted it with an LR Baggs Radius pickup.
Careful...I went from a MM natural f-style to a Collings MT2O within a couple of weeks. I'm thinking of ordering from a custom builder next...
Mandolin acquisition syndrome is worse for me than GAS...
I started playing the mandolin for the first time at the start of the year and am REALLY enjoying the journey! Still playing a lot of guitar, but the mando is also a lovely instrument.

I had to talk myself out of getting an Eastman MD-615. The thing played like my 6120RHH. I told myself I won't spend 1K on a mando until I take some lessons and really step up my playing. I'm an amateur player at best but since I'm playing mando in a band now I've improved dramatically in the past few months. But yeah, those Collings are beautiful and eventually I'll break into the 1K mando level. But for now....must....breath....
I did just order a McClung Arm Rest last night. And can't say anything but nice things about Doug, great communication and he's shipping my arm rest today.
I ordered the one in the middle on top. He makes them out of a variety of different woods and finishes.

That is a nice looking mando. Good score!

That looks really sweet....we'll be waiting for the "Mando" vids.
That's a beauty! Glad to know I had a little part in its acquisition...

Looks nice, Mac13! I've been meaning to buy a mandolin for about four years now. I even bought a book on how to play and a few sets of strings.
Love that finish! I tried bidding on a Gibson f-9 once and lost. It has a matte finish that looked very close to what you got. Does is bark and sing?

Beautiful piece. Love the f-style. Play it in excellent health.
Now look what you made me go and do:
Now you've got to record something with that and your Rev Rick V!
Very nice!

Nice mandos there, Macsteven and Curto!

Enjoy playing with your new toys!

I want a cittern.
Me too...I saw a Foley not too long ago that rocked. I really want an Irish bouzouki too.
Congrats on the mandos MacSteven and Curto!
