If the grain looks good (it does in the photos) I would consider amber-blond, translucent cherry or burgundy, or if you’re thinking different, a translucent dark blue. In either case, great project.
I couldn't bear to do it in anything but gold and the usual stock hardware/electronics. A gold ES-295 is one of the iconic early rock 'n' roll guitars. I wouldn't deviate from original specs.
Gotta second that notion, if you deviate from the ES 295 norm, you might as well just use a more common ES-175. Just my personal opinion, and i wouldn't want anyone telling me what to do with my guitar.
