New Guitar - Les Paul Studio 50's Tribute Gold Top

  1. Hi, I really fancied one of these from last year when I first heard about them and saw the goldtop. Didn't really think I could justify another guitar! But.....they were a great price - (for a Les Paul), really hard to find though as they were limited edition and even harder here in the UK! ...anyway I found myself tracking down a store - which although had pre sold all their alloted stock, had had a couple of people pull out, as Gibson had a flood and these were taking ages to arrive over here, so some folks got fed up waiting. So I put a deposit on one of their spare ones months ago, but didn't hold out much hope of actually getting one, as they weren't 100% that they ever get their requested stock.

Anyway - I got a call day after boxing day, they'd arrived at the store - and they had one with my name on it! ....next day it arrives at my house! What a fab Christmas present! - this is a proper guitar! - the nicest I've ever played. I'm really blown away by it and am loving playing it, can't put it down! Really worth the wait. I feel pretty lucky to have got hold of this - Its pretty much my dream guitar - Love the feel of it, the sound of the P90s. I can't imagine ever wanting to get rid of this! It's fantastic

    Here's some pics

These arrived a couple of days ago ....

And half an hour later .....

  2. Beautiful! I got the black one but would've loved the gold, you lucky man. Great guitars for sure, congratulations!

  3. I saw the first picture and thought, " Wow, that's nice but it needs a Bigsby..."

Apparently, so did you! Is that the adaptor that mounts without drilling new holes?

  4. Drool.

  5. JPP - yes its a Vibramate adapter - Highly recommend this - no drilling and anyone can fit one! I did it no problems at all and its totally reversable.

  6. I did the exact same thing - Goldtop, Vibramate, Nickel Bigsby. I paid just under $1100 for the entire package.

I did got a couple steps further. I wet sanded the neck to give it a better feel, and I put in nickel strap locks.

Hi Jeff - what strap locks did you use? thinking about putting some on, as I definately don't want this slipping out the strap!

  8. That is the mutts nuts, that is. Perkins-O-Rama.

  9. Great score. I only seem to see the white ones!

  10. Now that is nice,congrats!

  11. Woo-doggies! That's a fine lookin' ax.

  13. Kickass! I really don't need any more guitars, but this is just too cool...

  14. I think it needs one of these

  15. I think the black version of that guard would look hot.

  16. This thread should be proof that GDPers don't 'hate' Gibson guitars.

  17. Nope. We just hate the people behind Gibson guitars.

  18. While googling for NAMM news, I saw Gibson will be doing a similar tribute line of P90 loaded SG's.

  19. I always use Schaller. They are on the Fender/Gretsch guitars, and by always using the same strap locks the straps are interchangeable.

Plus I got a killer deal on nickel Schallers, so I bought several sets.

  20. Black WOULD be killer.

The other one clashes with the cream P-90's.

  21. I beg to differ

  22. Hey, billyd. What happened with the install of that Kay-Bigsby-Thing on your 50's Tribute?

  23. The Kay Bigs was too long, I'm going with a B11

    and an aluminum tru-arc

  24. Drag, man. That would have looked cool. The B-11 ain't nothing to sneeze at, though.

  25. I just found about these LPs recently. Damn, I've been jonesing for a Goldtop for years. Wish I'd known. Guess I'll just have to keep an eye on the local stores.
