neck angle

  1. ok , here is what i am thinking ,,, i got an NOS danelectro longhorn body and a dan 6 string neck ,, now my thoughts are instead of bolting the neck flat ( limits my selection of pups and a bridge ) i can kick the neck angle up with a wedge and that opens up for a whole bunch of choices of bridges and pups ,,, plus it also gives access to the truss rod adjustment,,,,,,,,,,,, what do you guys think on this....... i see no reason why it cant be done , actualy makes for a better guitar IMO

  2. business card.

  3. I usually use a small strip of credit card plastic or a piece of filed down Popsicle stick.

  4. How about "Donald Trump's" Credit Card? :)

  5. well the wedge would have to be 1/4 thick down to zero over a 4 inch span , to do what i want it to do

  6. oh anyone ever use the Hipshot Baby Grand Bridge ????

  7. I'm not sure that the neck angle is an issue yet, what I mean is that your choice of hardware may mean that the neck has to be angled but until you've settled it's an open ended question. I'm a dano lover and I'm interested in your project. I'd love to know what sort of hardware you've got in mind and the kind of finished guitar you are after.

  8. well this is true , the angle means nothing until i make up my mind on hardware , if i go all stock dano its not an issue , and i was going to use all dan hardware and found it cheaper to buy a doner guitar , i did that , a U2 , well UPS dropped it off today ,, now i am back to square 1 ,,,,,, i looked at this U2 and said ,, oh this is to cool to use it for parts lol ,,, and if i keep this up i'll have a house full of dano's lol but like i said ,,, just kicking the neck up 1/4 inch then gives access to the truss rod , ( a huge plus imo ) and it opens the door for better quality hardware and junk , oh well ,,,,,,,,,,

  9. Yeah, a house full of Dano's, perfect. All I want to do is get an other U2 and replace the top so I can move the controls down slightly and a Bigsby B5. Although I quite fancy doing this...[Link...]()

  10. Lowes or home depot will have wood shims if you need 1/4 to 0. They are used for squaring windows and such.

  11. oh that is cool !!!!! yeah i have always loved Dano's ever since i was little , my neighbor had a dan doubleneck , and that totaly did it for me . then these longhorn bodies , so far this week i bought the dano bass longhorn body , and 2 coral danelectro longhorn hollow bodies , 1967/68 ,,,,, so 2 more projects after this ,,,,,, and if i can find a good deal on a doubleneck i am going to build one , but that link was way cool

  12. yeah Rex ,,,, but i will use maple , i have some quarter sawn i will use for a shim ,, if i do that ,,but maybe i should just use all stock Dano hardware ,,,, i dont know , but doing something different is interesting also !!

  13. this is the project

  14. i know someone on another forum who recommends a cut-down top-loading Tele bridge as a replacement for Danos...you know, the ones that just have the back part of the plate with the bridge inserts? seems to me a Duo-Sonic bridge would work just fine, too.

i'd go with a wedge-shaped wood shim and sand it to fit so i got as much contact on both sides as possible...the less contact, the more it'll bollock up your sustain, and with Danos you're not exactly looking at a bell-like tone monster in the first place.
