Couldn't resist... This WILL BE MY LAST GUITAR!?
Lovely... I want one too! I sure hope it's not your last
Oh so cool. Love that color. Good for you!
Beautiful! Looks like Seafoam Green?
The JM is my new favorite solidbody guitar - pretty irresistible once you get your hands on a good one. (Note: a Jet is not a solidbody.)
(And maybe I shouldn't say the JM is my FAVorite solidbody. Teles are mighty special. I should say the JM is the one which suits my playing best.)
Anyway, I digress. It's a beauty. Brand new? Just acquired? Give us some context, man.
Thanks, they listed it as surf green.
Nice!
So you went upmarket rather than downmarket, eh!
Congrats on a very nice guitar.
I've always really liked the surf green jazzmasters and Strats. Very cool.
Congrats Curt. Owning a JM is on my wish list also, to replace the blond one I bought new in 1962. However, it is down on the wish list somewhat; but I really would like to have one someday. I lost my original to a fire. Total loss, along with a piggy back Tremolux amp. I wasn't so crazy about the Tremolux; but I loved the Jazz.

Very cool Curt. I just bought a sunburst Jaguar. I can't believe I'd never bothered to play one before. Truly versatile, and with some tones I haven't been able to coax out of anything else. Congrats!
Wow, Curt!
Let me, us know how it sounds!!!!
Seriously!!!!
:)
Very nice Curt! Love the color.
Yesterday I visited Curtis Novak and played a special JM that he just built. He wound one of his JM90 style pickups with four taps! It had four switches near the pickup selector switch. It sounded incredible! It's purple with a paisely pattern under a clear guard. I should have had my camera.
Curt, that is one really pretty guitar. I've owned many Fenders including Jaguars but have never owned a Jazzmaster; bhowever I'd certainly love to. They have such a unique sound. I found this clip and thought you might enjoy it.
The Novak thing sounds killer. Shame it cuts four more switch holes in the top though.
Nice Curt!
Hey Tim, only a guard needs to be cut for the holes:
Q: Does this require any routing or modification to the actual instrument?
A: No.
SO.... I did some paint work on another JM and did something I don't normally do, I played it. One thing lead to another and superbadj was selling one and I decided not to pull the trigger. Do I need another guitar, really, I think I have a problem...
So I put in a bid on the bay not expecting to get it but I did.
I like maple boards both in looks and feel but there's something about the JM, almost like a puppy looking at you with its tongue out that makes you bring him home.
Anyhoo I'm away on business next week so I'll let you all know how I like it when I get back and the guitar arrives.
Thanks for all the positive comments!
A little pricey but that'll be forgotten in a year or two.
Yes, Paul, the guard, not the top. Sloppy language on my part!
And that's not so bad; one could have a multi-tapped JM implementation in one pickguard and a stock config in another, and switch between them at whim. A JM Convertible, so to speak.
Curt, there's always danger in playing a guitar you'd avoided or just missed in the past. It's happened to me more than once...
Man, I see what you mean about the puppy's in the window thing. Those ebay pic's just scream BUY ME!!! Sweet guitar.
I think all Gretsch fans love JMs for some reason. I've retrofitted mine with Lace HG -1500 pickups. I know you purists out there are probably groaning - but the tone stayed pretty consistent and I need to be totally hum free for a lot of my work. By the way, flatwounds are always a nice touch on the JM.
I know its a Jag instead of a Jazzmaster, but I like what this guy does with one. Even if he is an unknown guy posting on youtube. Great tone.
Guy on YOutube plays a jazz classic with his Jaguar.
He actually has some nice videos in his list. Check him out.
otterbean, I was just watching that clip last night. Great tone in that clip. Not to mention the playing.
very nice! :-)
My other electrics are all Fender offset-waist.. a modded '94 Japan Jazzmaster and a '69 Mustang. I got the Fender vintage re-issue pickups to replace the nasty Japanese OEM.. sounds lovely!
Enjoy.. ;-)
bean, that was a very nice clip. First time I have ever heard a jag played that way. I'm not one to find fault, believe me; but I couldn't help but wonder why he went to the plectrum on his lead part. He was sounding great with his fingers but when he started the lead part with the plectrum, the mood changed. The tone was harsh and brash compared to before. I think it would have been so much better if he would have stayed with his fingers, ala Mark Knopffler.

Beautiful guitar Curt!
Not trying to derail the thread but I just came across an '03 AM JM for sale locally (K-W Ontario) at what appears to be a fair price for these parts ($999).
Here is the link if anyone is interested:

I've checked out a lot of his clips before, mainly his Danelectro stuff. What a player!
