I Bigsbified my Casino!

1

I've been modding this Casino a lot lately (dewound the pickups to a more vintage spec, flipped a coil for hum cancelling in the middle), and finally put on the final piece tonight (who am I kidding? The final piece is a Duane handle)!

So far the break angle isn't an issue, a little shallower than my 6120, but I haven't had any Neil Young moments yet. We'll see how it goes up, I'm sure I'll have to do some more setup work on this rig.

It's not as wonky as it looks in that photo

Looks great! Is that a b3 or 6?

They are great guitars - I’ve looked at mine and thought the break angle too shallow so have been looking for a vibrola .

It's a B3. The way the top is arched, I reckoned the shorter B3 would keep the string bar further down the top and increase the break angle, which it seems to have done. Based on everything I've experienced and read about Bigsbys, I recognize that this was more of an experiment than a final solution. I've never like the feel of the tension-bar units, so I wanted to try the trapeze version on here. Worst case it doesn't work and I can find somebody to trade for a B7, but I had to try the B3 first.

For a guitar that kind of took the backseat after I got my 6120, it's surprisingly become a real fovorite in recent months.

I will say the heavier 11 set of strings help. I used a junk set of 10s first to get the angles right, but they were more prone to popping out of the saddles.

5

Could you wrap the strings upside down to increase the angle? Is that a thing? Have the string come from the under side of the bigsby bar.

6

Does it change the feel much.?

My casino is my go to guitar at the moment too. Comfortable, light, plays well and sounds great. I think my pickups were rewound b4I bought it.

It would raise the pitch when you depressed the handle.

The handle would swing all the way back with nothing to hold it down to the top.

I know this break angle business is something that gets hemmed and hawed about all day when it comes to fixed bridges, but I'm having no problems with this one. It's not drastically different than my 6120, or any Jazzmaster I've played
