What to do... Sell gear your not using?..

  1. So i have a little problem.. I love buying new gear :D

But i have plenty of stuff i dont use!

Digitech Jamman i got a while ago, i barely use it. Practially never, now i could sell it for a few hundred and buy somthing else.

Same with El Cap, its an awesome pedal but i use the DM3 more. I barely turn it on. I would love to sell these things to fund new stuff but i just like owning them haha.

    Anyone else have this problem?..

  2. Yep, I have the same problem. I have a ton of stuff I haven't used in forever, but I hate to get rid of it. I always think there will come a time when I will need it. And some of the things I have sold, now I wish I had them back...

  3. Its a bitch...

I just got a refund for my car rego that i cancelled due to a new car. And i'll sell the car for a few hundred..

Now the smart thing to do would be to pay some of the loan... Nah i wanna buy somthing!

  4. Just went through a recent purge here on the GDP, as you might remember, Jayce. It felt good. Like having a weight removed from my shoulders. It wasn't the money that made me feel so much better, it was lightening the overall tonnage, and giving a decent deal to a few friends was just gravy.

  5. I remeber! You did give some good deals! :) I love that Strat!

I understand what you mean though Bob, i like using them but i just dont really use them if that makes sense.

    Arrrrggghh!

  6. If I don't use it.... out it goes. Rather have the $ than a pedal that sits in a drawer or a guitar in the closet.

  7. mitch are you a bass player? guitar players are not that practical and we tend to feel a sense of security in the arms of fantasy.

  8. Thats the thing, its an El Cap.. Its truly an awesome pedal!

  9. Well i decided to give the Jamman a shot..

Its on two Aussie forums, you guys in the states could get one over there cheaper.

    I found a 93/94 1957 RI Strat FS locally... I want haha :D

  10. But...you...have...a...Strat. Already. ;-) ;-) ;-)

  11. Hahah Sligo... I have two :D

Buuut 3rd times a charm! Im just window shopping at the moment

  12. I used to have your problem, then I got married and my wife wanted renovations to the house. The house with the french doors is long gone, and so is my 52 Tele RI. :( But life goes on... and I have a hankerin' for a P90s Goldtop. Maybe I'll have to start selling paintings again.

  13. I've off-loaded a pile of guitar-related bits and pieces lately — raising cash and making space for more stuff, of course. If anyone in the UK is interested in any of this lot, just pm me.

Hughes & Kettner Crunchmaster mains-powered, valve-driven (one ECC83, one EL84) pre-amp/di/3W mini-amp head. Works fine (made in Germany!) but looks a bit battered — — although built for guitar it's done at least three UK theatre tours driving a Hammond organ through a Leslie. On guitar it sounds great just plugged into a speaker cab.

  14. Being 22 i dont have the 'Wife' issue... haha

See i wanted a 52 RI for a long time... Didnt find one

Bought Ric 330 Sold it. Bought a Caddy Green Country Club, sold it!

Bought a Jimmie Vaughan Strat, wont sell it i love it.. Strats are the Guitars i meant to play i believe.

  15. Not wishing to derail... but Tavo... you got that right! My wife is a bass player... very pragmatic... says things like 'Why would I need another bass?'
Meanwhile, in my world, the question is 'Why wouldn't I need another guitar/amp/pedal... or some other random instrument that we have no room in the house for and I'll never have time to play anyway?'

  16. I'm so familiar with the situation. Usually it's very nice stuff I have laying around and I never use it. May it be the 5th delay pedal, an overdrive or a guitar in which style I own a second one at least. I found out it makes no sense for me to let them go seperately. The money I get runs through my fingers and I'v got no idea where. So I decided to let the stuff go as a pile when I'm in the mood and have the time. I take pictures, resize them, do descriptions of the items and place them anywhere on the net. So the amount of money is worth a mention. I put some of the money aside and with the rest I buy myself a new toy. That's the way I do it and it works for me. Got a new Gretsch in the focus right now...

  17. Jayce: when I first started playing guitar in earnest (about 61/62) Strats were rather 'non-u' in my neck of the woods (Merseyside) because they tended to be associated with shiny suits and combed-back hair (ie. Cliff Richard and The Shadows), whereas the Liverpool look had moved into leather and Beatle haircuts. So if you had the money you went for a Gibson, Gretsch or Guild. If you didn't have much money it was something like a Harmony. Yeah, there were Fenders about, but not that many.

I was firmly in the "gimme a Gibson" camp — didn't want to know about Strats. I now have three of the damn things and take any two of them to just about every gig we do! They just do more or less anything I need to play and are as tough as old boots. I really ought to do something about this, maybe form another band — the Stratbanned Band — to give the Teles, the Gretsch, the Hagstrom and the Dearmond a day out once in a while.

Dude, a wife can be an issue at any age ;-) . Maybe this isn't the place for it, but I'm sure you've noticed how many Gretsch players love Teles, but don't have much time for Strats?

  19. Haha not thinking about a wife just yet!

Well i do have the 5120 with Dyna's, a parts Tele happening with Bigbsy.

But strats are the guitars i fell in love with. It sounds corny i know, but i just get them. The shape, the curves, the feel and the sound, i just love em!

  20. A good friend of mine has almost everything he ever bought. And he loves to experiment. So he goes in his work room, and "trips over a pile of old tape echoes" (his words) he forgot he even had.

I don't have this problem, being pretty rigorous about selling gear that doesn't work for me. The downside is, sometimes I end up selling something that truly should have stayed. More often, it's a good feeling, with good results. MD

  21. Where does one draw the line between 'gear not working for me' and 'not using said gear'...

:P I dont know if im trying to talk myself into it or out of it! haha

  22. there's a couple of criteria i mull over nowadays, as i feel that i have some imbalance between "need" and "have." one problematic thing is that some of the gear i'd like to liquidate doesn't have a great deal of market value, and if i'm only going to get $300 or $350 for an instrument i'd as soon keep it. another is the question of whether the gear i'd sell is something i'll really use in the future or not; a clapped-out Twin Reverb has more of a future than a Pod with the floor controller that used to cost $350 but now is worth about $100. and then there's relative redundancy...since i've got five electric guitars with single coils, at some point the Tele or the second Strat is going to go unless i'm in a situation where i'm using that part of the Fender palette a LOT, and if i have to raise money one of the Blueridge dreadnought acoustics is expendable.

  23. Mine have to sit unused for a loooooooong time before I sell.

That being said, I have lots of stuff that has been collecting dust, so now I'll have to go over everything for consideration.

The last thing I sold was 1rst generation, haint painted(Spin Art) The Experience pedal. Really cool pedal that I never used, really.

Now I got that Mesa Boogie V-Twin sitting in a drawer somewhere, and all those guitars...nah!

  24. shipping speaker enclosures is a tricky endeavor... =/

  25. So i sold my car... and plus the Rego refund im up $800...

    This wont end well :D
