Proteus, I don't need a bridge base. Can you sell them without the base?

When I bought my '97 6120 back in '98, the original owner had a "tunamatic" bridge installed.
There was an extra base and Space Control bridge. If I remember correctly, when I went to swap out to a bar bridge, it fit one of the bases, and not the other.
I can't confirm if the "narrower" post unit was on the original Space Control bridge or the Tunamatic.
But, one of those late 90's bases was a different post spacing.
And yes Prot, I'm VERY interested in a Gold plated ALuminum unit for my Falcon. I've got to actually check the radius, but it's supposed to be a 12".
The factory bar bridge that I put on feels like it has the "higher action E's, and buzzing a little middle strings.
So, either the bridge or fingerboard aren't the advertised 12"

Here's a pic of the original first design Gretsch rocking bar bridge from late 1957. Let me know if you want to borrow one of these Proteus. Might be a cool variant to remake.

GENUINE GRETSCH CHROME/ROSEWOOD ROCKING BAR BRIDGE Item Number: 006-2616-000
Proteus, the above is the after-market Fender parts number for the RBB I've got on my SSLVO. I'd love to get one that matches the radius of my guitar in stainless steel or brass (I'm guessing the stainless steel is a bit brighter-- that's the way I'd prefer to go...)

Wow what a story. Anyway my bridge is 41 years old now and I never noticed any buzzing or higher action on the outside strings. Are those outside strings really higher than the ones in the middle? How much?
Too bad my guitar not here with me, otherwise I would measure it.
Hey Proteus if your guy makes parts for NASA you could probably make a digital superalloy rocking bar bridge unit on which you could enter the radius, string gauge and angle. After that the bridge would "remember" it's required shape by getting the necessary corresponding heat treatment.

If the aluminium had been a better fit on my base Tim was going to let me take it on the honor system which is cool but I don't really like to do that. Ya give the man the money then he gives ya whatever ya bought right? Anyway I don't want to tear apart bridges to put them on my base. I'll just order them with the base and it's a 5 min. job. Loosen her up! slide it out! slide it in! then tighten her back up and everyone goes home happy!

What's the difference in weight between the brass, aluminum, and stainless? Will there be a shootout displaying the tonal differences between the three on the same guitar/amp setup?

Road Junkie tested them all on his DSW.

Jul 6, 2008 12:55 p.m. roadjunkie:
Proteus did the test with my DSW. If I remember correctly the brass and aluminium were somewhat close in weight with the stainless being the heaviest. Not that you could really disconcern the difference. There wasn't that much. Both of Tim's bars are solid and that made all the difference in the world. Hopefully Proteus will do some sound samples here if he gets the chance. That would do more justice then I could tell you.
