I made a post looking for a fuzz pedal and someone suggested going to build your own clone and buying a kit. I have alot of electronics experience and bought a kit and it turned out flawless!!!!!!(Arbiter copy).. SO now I am hooked, I think I found a hobby that is ALMOST as enjoyable as playing guitar. I have been surfing around the net and I found a printed circuit board for a Gretsch Controfuzz. I was originally going to try and build a Maestro Fuzztone as my next project since I dont have the $500 to get one off of ebay but I have to build this one first because it is Gretsch.. I just did the Arbiter copy in the unfinished metal housing but I am going to paint it at some point... will post pics when I paint it and add some decals...

Congrats bodr1! I have a question though. I think I could easily build stomp boxes too, but where do you get the cases for them and which site is the best to use? The reason I ask is that the last time I was going to attempt this I couldn't find the stomp cases and an all in one area for the various parts. The site I was on, you had to search for every single cap and resistor by yourself and it was a pain. I'd like to build some cool effects, like a tremelo pedal with true bypass. Any tips and is it cheaper than buying a decent pedal or is it more just for fun?

Wenzel here is a few links- http://www.pedalpartsplus.com/ they have all the parts and boxes. http://www.buildyourownclone.com/index1.html Byoc has kits but they are pricey, I bought one just to more or less try it out and they had the exact pedal kit I was looking for.. http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/ This is probably where I will go for my next project, They had the same pedal kit but with different transisitors, I wanted the Germanium transistor version... Also this site gives you options to build those different versions... Would have gone here if I had not already ordered from BYOC..

Looks like you did a nice job on the wiring. I would leave it just bare metal- It looks cool and if someone asks you what it is, you can give different answers every time.

Ive been browsing some of the other builders pedals and they twist and tie all there wiring. I will do that on my next one. Ive got the stuff coming to build another fuzz and I bought a green ringer clone kit from General guitar gadgets... Both those I am powdercoating white so I can use black decals on them. The green ringer I am keeping, the other fuzz is sold once its built.

This is a great thread you must post some audio of the controfuzz when you build it, ive been trying to find out what it sounds like for a while. I think im gonna buy the shin Ei fuzz kit from generalguitargadgets.com. Id love to build a fuzzrite clone but i haven't seen any kits.

TwangOmatic- I just built generalguitargadgets green ringer clone. Beware of their wire. Go and buy some decent wire and use that instead. I had 2 wires break off at the PCB and it added about 30 min of cursing and more work to finish. Other than that issue I am pretty happy with it overall...
