I know this thread is over a year old, but I wanted to publicly thank Proteus again for doing such a bang-up job with the shootout!
I've been researching dirt boxes for quite a while, trying to narrow down the dizzying number of choices to a handful that I can try out in person. I remembered this shootout, googled it and found it even more informative than the first time around.
With all the Youtube demos and company-supplied samples out there, Proteus has served up the best, most objective and most useful tone test on the subject, and since the search for the perfect dirt tone is a perennial topic I wanted to say thanks again for doing us all such a great service, and to bring the Shootout to the attention of new members who may have missed it the first time around.
