I understand each of the eight stomp switches will engage any combination of the eight loops (presumably with one pedal plugged into each loop).
What I need to know is whether LOOPS can be combined: in other words, if I have a compressor in loop 2 and a dirter in loop 2, can I stomp both loops and engage both pedals?

The Octaswitch has stereo outputs, and a stereo return on Loop 8 (this is a stereo jack with tip-left and ring-right). Since stereo effects like choruses are placed at the end of your effects-chain, we would typically insert them in Loop 8. You will only achieve stereo output (with signal on left & right channels) when you have the stereo return connected in loop 8. When there is no stereo pedal engaged, there is no signal in the right output.
Example on normal single amp operation
Example on mono dual amp operation
Use a Y-cable in left output with 2 mono and 1 stereo jack, connect Tip & Ring to (+)
Example on dual amp/stereo operation
Use a Y-cable from the stereo unit to loop 8 return, left on ring and right on tip of the stereo jack.
Please notice that there is only full stereo operation with signal on the right output when there is a stereo pedal in loop 8, and loop 8 is engaged i.e. a stereo chorus, to maintain output on both L/R also without the chorus effect, you have to bypass the effect on the chorus pedal.
When there is no stereo pedal engaged there is no signal at the right output.
Example on mono operation with mute and tuner out
Connect a tuner to i.e. loop 2 send, and nothing in the loop return, select i.e. program 8 with only loop 2 engaged, this way you mute the system while getting signal to your tuner, without the signal passing through the tuner.

Sure.
But a better solution, you make a preset for such a combination. You toggle the dip switches for, say, preset 3, to turn on the individual loops for the compressor and dirt pedal. That way those pedals are still available for other combinations as well, in case you want to have a combination that only includes one of the two. But they will both be brought into your signal chain when you step on the aforementioned preset 3 stompswitch. When you press on another preset switch, then another combination is activated.
Right, I understand configuring oft-used combinations via the dipswitches so that several effects come on at once with a single footswitch. That's exactly how I want it to work.
But I didn't want each loop to be exclusive, so that when I selected loop 2, for instance, it turned off loop 3.
I can think of more than 8 different combinations of 8 pedals.
I don't think you'll get such advanced kind of logic with such a simple device. You'll have to get into some sort of midi brain.
But then, the trick is, how often do you need to have all those combinations? Also, you can also reassign the dipswitches on a per gig basis.
The beauty of the device is no tap dancing needed.
