Victoria Regal II vs Gretsch vics

Any thoughts on the Victoria Regal II.... look very versatile, but will it do “Chet” clean

Dunno, but an Exec. will...
Chet used a Standel with a 15" speaker. If you really want Chet to SRV, I think it's either a Standel, an Exec., or a Peavey Delta Blues 1x15. You'll likely need a pedal to get any of these into SRV territory without blowing your roof off.

The Regal II is darker. And louder.
Paul Pigat used them both. He says those two complement each other. To be complete, you should own both.
The Regal has a fifties cold bias tone like an old jazz record, but with a snappy attack.
The Exec is brighter like the Standel. I'd buy one from Mark Baier directly. He has a few upgraded Execss in stock for $1900. Probably with another cabinet look. Just go to the Victoria website and call him.

Geoff….When you say that Mark has a few Execss in stock are you meaning Executives???? But he made those for Gretsch, I thought they were all gone and he had since un-tied strings with them...???

No, he has some Victorias that are essentially Executives with some slight modifications that he made to them. Improvements that he didn't build into the Executives. Grrrrrr.

Intresting, I spoke with Mark twice last week and both times I mentioned that I was thinking about a used Executive and he never mentioned he had any
, he did tell me he would build me a Regal II but in a more traditional Deluxe type cabinet in blonde as he had no Regal cabs. It would be 4 to 6 weeks till he would have a Regal in it the “Regal” cabinet. But since then I have a less than 2 hours played Executive coming at a really great price. Should be here Tuesday or Wednesday
…. its somewhere between Texas and Kansas right now….

Mark is very fond of his Regal design. It's his favorite. That may be the reason. Could be the Execs are all gone now, but I doubt that.
The Regal is no Chet amp. Fun thing is, it can use about any power tube. You can put in a 6K6 and a 6L6. The K will distort right away and the L will stay clean. A design to make funny noises, as Billy Zoom called it.
But for a zingy bright tone you need the Exec.

Well my Executive is finally here but i'm at work
... it's sitting at the UPS store by my house just waiting for me... I can't wait to get home and check it out

The Regal will have to wait till i get more funds
... since I also bought the EC Tremolux last week as well.
.. it's taking some getting used to but once I added a little reverb it really came alive and has a great slight dirty/clean SRV sound that I'm sure my neighbors are loving every night..
..lol....it has really big bass and thump for 12 watts
