Typhoon

1

NAD Winfield Typhoon.

Just had the chance to put this little guy through its paces and I’m smiling!

Five watts. Three tubes. Endless mojo.

Nice, thick grind at friendly volume. Plays nice with filters and dyna’s.

I’ve got a Magic Britt mk2 tb86 (essentially an ac15 top boost with selective ef86 circuit) that I adore, but needs to be driven to really shine.

This gets me there at a much more neighbor friendly volume.

And it looks good, too!

carry on

The 6AT6 is not the rectifier, it is a triode used as a gain stage for the EF86. The Typhoon uses a solid state rectifier.

The Typhoon is a great-sounding amp!

12

Love the simplicity of it.

Just gotta say, it’s nice getting this kind of grind at this hour of the evening and not feel very guilty about the noise.

I do like noise. Not sure about my neighbors opinions.

When I pulled those pics for winnie I thought long and hard about this amp. If I didn't just buy the Allen well in spite of buying the Allen I was still thinking of it. Single ended amps just trip my trigger.
