Super Champ X2

  1. Do any of you cats have one of these, and what is it like? Does it have more volume for gigging than a Super Champ XD?

Does a cab come with it or do you have to buy it seperately? What cab are y'all using with this head?

  2. I was also seeking out some info on this amp, as I was thinking about getting rid of my SC xd to get the x2. What I learned, and this was from youtube searching was... The company that made the xd for Fender in China bailed out of making amps. So Fender moved the manufacturing to Mexico. In doing that, they added the tap control, which is what interested me most, plus the USB Fuse extra to download parameter changes like the Mustang amps.

I bought my xd for the reason, it was a cheap Fender tube amp. The other models didn't effect the purchase either way, as I wanted the clean Fender Black Face tone mostly. When I got the amp, I hated it, but figured like with most of my amps, I would mod them till I got what I wanted.

I added a Jensen C10Q speaker which was bought and tried on other amps for the same reason. To me, the Jensen is the Fender tone I always heard in my head. Then I changed out the pre amp tube with a Electro-Harmonix, after experimenting again. Note, I have this collection of speakers and tubes from going through this with a crap load of amps... So after going through JJ, Tung-Sol, Sovtech and the Groovetube it came with, the E-H stuck. Then I replaced the 6V6 power tubes with the E-H brand. Now I'm happy!

I have a VOX AD30 VT that I went trough this whole procedure. Have gone through Marshall Valvestate amps, Fender Frontman amps etc,... I know what I want! I manage to break even, cause usually this goes with that and visa, versa.

Anyway, the cab on the x2 is a seperate item, and if you know what tone you want, and not all models work with one type of speaker... The choice is up to you!

These amps don't really start to compress till their pretty much dimed out any how. My intent was to buy the x2, swap out the tubes and speaker, and sell the xd as a stock unit on ebay. My mind changes on this stuff constantly, so right now... I'm staying with the xd... Just figured I would give you some info as I see it!

    Good Luck!

  3. As far as I heard, the X2 is the same amp as the XD only with the added computer connection.

@Bente: I run my SCXD through a vintage Jensen 15". What exactly do the EH tubes do to the sound over the stock Fender tubes?

  4. In a nut shell, it makes the tone more Fender'y IMO, more articulate, tighter, less noise and the effects sound a bit better. How that would equate with a 15" speaker, that's something you would have to experiment with. I alway's dug how the Super Reverb sounded, as opposed to a Deluxe. That's why I like 10" speaker equipped amps...
