I've owned an Ampeg Diamond Blue 4X12" cab for a few years now and loved it. I got to play an Ampeg SR212RT Super Rocket 100w 2x12" combo through it this last weekend. The sound was absolutely perfect. This is the tone I've been chasing for years, and with my 5120, the super rocket, and my 4x12, I was in heaven. The only trouble is I can't fine a super rocket anywhere! I'd be ok with a Reverb Rocket (the 50w version) either 1 or 2 12", or even the 50w head version (R-50). Anyone have any of these amps they'd be willing to part with? I can't even turn on my solid state Crate anymore, it just doesn't do it for me now. And it's only seen 6 gigs!
I NEED an Ampeg tube amp!

This post reminds me of my old VT-22, rebuilt with master volume. 2x12 Celestion.
Couldnt lift it though.
Almost gave it away in the early-mid 80s. SS was hip. Miss it now

I used to have one of the SuperJet SJ-12T reissues and really liked it. You should be able to find one on eBay for a song - if you're willing to go the eBay route - and if you're planning to run it through a cab, the SuperJet would be much easier to tote around than a 2x12.

Did anyone here ever use a V4? I had one for a couple of years back in the late '70s. They were like the "poor man's Marshall."
They actually weren't bad, but I couldn't get it to overdrive like a Marshall. Mine was a 1969 model with no master volume. Here's my Ampeg V4 (2) 4x12 stack behind my bass player (he had an SVT).

I used to have an early 60's Ampeg R15R Superbreverb in beautiful original condition. The R15R was basically a Reverb Rocket w/ a 15" speaker. Great sounding amp...wish I still had it.

I have an Ampeg V4 I also use with a Rick 4001 bass. I also use it with my 6196T Country Club. I running the V4 through two tuned cabinets with an EVM15L in each. Sounds great! A bit loud for guitar, though, especially if you want to overdrive it. I use smaller amps (like my Harmony H-415) when I want distortion.

Get the 1x12 it sounds better and is much lighter. You can always add a cab if you need that much volume.
The 1x12 can be miced and you won't have to see a chiropractor or visit an orthopedic surgeon.

The midrange switch on my ol' V-4 could make a miniHB cry like a Dynasonic. (Sorry 'bout that) I miss that amp! But not the 80Lbs.
BTW I had a "strangler" prototype between the amp/cabs. That really tamed the wattage & dail-in "dirt".

Hey Proteus,
What was that Ampeg amp that you had in Nashville?
I was loving that tone big time.

these are lovely, especially the reverb and tremolo. be sure to get one with the 7591 output tubes. there are a lot of those 'coverted' to 6L6's.

Not sure if this does anything for you, Ripley, but there's a Reverberocket 1x12 reissue on eBay right now. Sitting at $325 with no bids as of yet.
And Proteus - the Guitar Center near me has a 60s Reverberocket 1x12 in their high-dollar room. Based on your unabashed love for your pair of Ampegs, I'm going to try and give it a quick spin sometime to hear the magic for myself...

I tried one last night at a guys house in town, but it had no tremolo.
Too bad, cause at $150, it's a really good buy.

Wait wait... tried what? A vintage one, or one of the reissues?
Either way, at $150 you can pick up a Danelectro trem for $20 - $40 and be well ahead! You could even grab the Voodoo Labs tremolo and still make out ahead of the game.

No kidding, whether its original or reissue, to me anything Ampeg for less than 300 and I can't walk past it. Thanks for the links guys, but I'm inches away from buying a Peavey Classic 50 that just waltzed into my life. So while I hope to pickup an Ampeg sometime, the Classic 50 is the right place at the right price. I'll always love the Superrocket, but that Peavey sounds awesome too. If I could only afford both.

A little off topic, but when I first became a Gretsch-a-holic my rig was a 1957 Country Club though an Ampeg B-15! (Circa 1967-68).I wore that Club out, but it's replacement (2008 Club w/Dynas) has taken over the work load. I sure wish I had that B-15 Portaflex back! (The new Club doesn't have enough road-wear on it yet.)

I have an old VT22 head that needs alot of work. Anybody know where I could get a recap set for this beast. I am also looking for a broke down svt head if any body has one for sell. preferably from the 70's. Hey rhythmmax how does the portaflex sound with a guitar on it. I know the 15 is good for jazz, but can you still get enough twang for country pickin. The b15 is one of my dream amps.
