Early 70' Twin Reverb, I want to buy but not sure???

  1. Hey folks, (I NOW OWN THIS)...lol I’m looking to buy a Twin Reverb, looks like early ’70’s and really clean. Supposedly has the original speakers but not sure. The guy said he thinks they ar Jensen but they say Fender, I think they look JBL’ish???? What do y’all think??? (AGAIN, IT'S MINE NOW)....:D :D :D SN: A-53137, looks like 1973 SF

  2. He wants $600, might need re-tubed.... he has had it for 30yrs... has not played it much!!!!!

    Thanks

  3. If it has 30 year old hardly used tubes in it, they may be better than anything that you buy to replace them with! ;-)

  4. Buy it if thats the headroom you need. Looks like Fender branded JBLs to me!

  5. Those are JBL's.. If those speakers are in good shape they are worth nearly as much as he is asking for the whole amp 8-o

  6. If it still has the original tubes and hasnt been played much, have theb power filters (caps) redone, dont even think about the tubes. As Hermit said, they are better than anything you will buy today, unless you want to spend big $$$ on NOS tubes.I think those speakers are JBL's relabeled for Fender. Those SF amps are very well built, better than anything today.I prefer to have them blackfaced, not a hard job to do,you want have a true BF,but it takes that harsh edge off somewhat. If those speakers are in good shape,$600 is a good deal on that amp. They are very loud,so you wont get much breakup without having your ears bled out,but if you dont like it,you can always sell it for more if its as good as it looks.I say go for it.

  7. Forgot to mention, check the number on the speaker frame, the first 3 digits will tell you the manufacturer.Like 220XXXX would be Jensens.I think the Lansings are 391,but I'm not 100% on that.I have a list of codes somewhere, post the numbers and I or someone here will find it for you,but they sure look like JBL's.

  8. I bought a late 72 in 1989 and have had all sorts of gear since. Still got it. Still sings. Still loud. Still nothing like it. Get it. Now. Go.

  9. Those are JBL's.. If those speakers are in good shape they are worth nearly as much as he is asking for the whole amp 8-o

    Definitely JBL D120's.

  10. Buy it!

  11. WOW...I might have to get it.... I just picked this up last week for $700 and its the most incredible amp, clean clean clean.... added a Mojo Hand FX Rook to it and holy cow it comes alive...

Just thinking how this 2X12 combo would sound!!!!! Some say it will be a totally different sound????

I have to quit buying stuff, when will it end!!!!!!! http://www.flickr.com/photo...

  12. At 6 Bills, you could roll it on Ebay and make 4 more easily.

A Twin is an amp of beauty and can actually be used at lower volumes. 10 is not a true requirement. But, it's there if you ever 'need' it.

  13. That's a slamming deal. Best twins I've played have been early 70s SF. Those speakers are a big bonus. You could sell them easy and get back better than half your purchase price. Looks really nice. MD

  14. Thanks, I think the speakers have been re-coned and I’ve heard that it there not done right they are not worth anything and sound terrible????? I know they were done by a local amp repair guy, whether he used the proper cone kit or not I don’t know???? Looks like the kit is about $175 for each speaker!!!!! I'm going at lunch to check it out!!!!!

  15. Buy it...I don't think you can get anything better for $600.00

  16. I'd jump on it.

  17. Please buy it!

  18. Those are JBLs. You'd be crazy not to buy it.

  19. Hell, where's it at? I'll buy the dang amp :P

  20. you would be crazy to pass this amp up.... IF you know how to change the CAPS.... I would recap it and new tubes...JJ's

The orig tubes are probably in great shape...and you may choose to swap them back in....but I would recap and retube her...

  21. Billy Zoom is of the opinion that replacement cones currently available JBLs don't sound nearly as good. The Weber recones I have heard sound fine to me, but I defer to his much larger experience. Even so, $600 is cheap for just about anything vintage fender amp-wise, and for a JBL equipped twin, doubly so.. Soeakers are an easy $150 and up each, even with a recone. That will be a deafeningly loud amp at full volume though, and heavy too. Should be an awesome steel or jazz guitar rig, or loud-ass rock and roll for that matter. Squeaky clean way up into the volume range.

  22. If you decide not to get it, would you please act as my agent and get it for me.

    Don

  23. Going to check it out here in a bit, I have my '60 Custom Shop Daphne blue Relic strat, MOJO Hand FX Rook pedal, 2 cords and a pick. Oh, I need $600 ..... Better hit the ATM... I'll let y'all know tonight what the verdict is, this will be for my early rock sound, still got the Executive for my 2 Gretsch kids.... Stu

  24. I'll buy if you dont want it. I'll sell the alnico JBL D120F speakers for $500 and own a twin for $100! :P

  25. C'mon Tavo, I spoke for it first. If I don't want it (fat chance) you can have second dibs. How's that???
