The Spirit of the GDP Roundup

1

Eleven or twelve years ago, Wenzel posted "Hey, instead of talking guitars why don't we get together and actually play?" So we did. They did it first in New England USA and from there came the Jersey, Baltimore, Nashville,Cowtown, Nor-Cal, So-Cal,Hoosier Daddy, Delta Crossroads, Grumpfest, Euro and Canadian round-ups. ( I feel like I forgot some)Gretsch guitars caught on to what we cwazy folks were doing and asked if they could join in on the fun. Whoda thunk, eh? This is how we got to meet folks like Fred and Dinah, Joe Carducci, Stephen Stern and a cornucopia of other fine folks.

I'll be honest, The first time I attended, the second Nashville Round-up, I told Karolyn that I was a bit nervous meeting a bunch of musicians that I had never met. I mean, they seemed like nice folks on the internet but ya never know, ya know? So we dove in head first and came out with a spectacular time. After I got the last piece loaded in, to leave, Karolyn looked at me and said "Can we do this again next year?" all that I could say was I love you woman. We've done it ever since and the past two years we even organized the Nashville event. We attended the Cowtown round-up in Kansas City once and had a great time there, as well.

So, I thought I'd bring a camera and do some filming, take some pics and share with the GDP when I get home. Others did the same. In fact, at one time, Proteus took over "Live streaming" these events and I'm sure some of that footage is likely out there too. So my idea for this thread was to share links to those events from my Youtube page. For those that may be new (or old, wink) to the GDP and give everyone an opportunity to revisit some of those videos like Rob Purposing to Amy or Miss Phila calling out for lunch. If anyone would like to add to these, feel free. PLEASE! So here's what I've got...

I hope you enjoy.

Thank you, Dave! How great to have these.

Hmm, can't find my Hoosier Daddy Roundup video catalog. so click on the link and page through till the end. Most videos are still there yet some seem to have disappeared. Very odd.

thanks for posting these, Dave.

a few of us met down in Keithville, Louisiana at Don Woods house back in 2008 or so. I can't remember if it was before or after the first Nashville Roundup that year. we've even had a few Gatherings up here in Minnesota. the last one was called a Minnesota Roundup. Joe C attended a couple of them, too.

as far as meeting people, at the first Cowtown Roundup(2012), we got to meet Tom(TV) Jones and his wife. I even asked Tom to adjust the pickups on my New Jet. (who better than the guy that actually designed the pickups to adjust them, right ?)

I did go to one B-more round up and enjoyed it but it was a bit more sonic than I could deal with for an extended term. Still met some great players and fun people. My '65 Tennessean that had been tweaked over a period of two years to be Most Playable One Anywhere was widely admired.

Wow.....was that Cowtown Roundup really six years ago? Sure was a good time. Thanks for posting that.

Thank you Dave - nothing like looking back to make you look forward.

Great times with great people!

Pretty sure Proteus & I have recorded video of the Nashville Boardroom fun, somewhere. Most of mine were on the now defunct photo site. Can't even remember the name. But, they're still on a drive, somewhere. I'll try to make a list so we can decide if we need them.

I had a ton of Roundup photos on Photobucket. I still have them on hard drives but it would be monumental trying to go back and retrieve them. Photobucket really broke my heart.

If anyone has anything to contribute, feel free to add them here.

I also have a ton of photos in or on the cloud. I could transport them over to my dropbox at some point.
