Cool song - I knew it Led Zep was covering it, but I never knew it rocked so hard in it's original version. I prefer this much more.
Was the 6120 Ritchie played his or was it a movie prop?

Ha, nice ... Thanks crowbone!
According to Wikipedia, that 6120 was borrowed from Eddie Cochran for the part in the movie. Notice that it does NOT have the dogear at the neck, though.
Did Eddie have a spare, or was this before the dog ear install?
I just love the fact that in old movies the hero could pick up a guitar and sound like a complete band all by himself.
Yeah why doesn't that work for me?
Wikipedia is wrong (I know, shocking isn't it?) That 6120 has no connection to Eddie Cochran. Eddie had his dogear P90 on his guitar in 1955, this movie is from 1959.
Also, Ritchie's song is a ripoff of Little Richard's "Ooh My Soul".
I believe Chuck Berry used a Gretsch Roundup in the same movie on "You Can't Catch Me" so it's possible the Gretsch guitars in the movie, except Cochran's, were props. I don't believe there are any other pictures or performances of either Chuck or Ritchie where they are using Gretsch guitars.
I've seen a pic of Berry holding a double cut White Falcon before.
It was on the back cover of a UK tv series album called Head Over Heels IIRC.
Ridiculously large f-holes and quite a stupid song.
Mr T said: Also, Ritchie's song is a ripoff of Little Richard's "Ooh My Soul"Yep. Interesting detail is that it's probably Earl Palmer playing drums on both.
I love Ritchie Valens' recordings, but I'm still not sure whether it's because of Valens or because of the band playing on his records. (Palmer, Rene Hall, Carol Kaye,..)
Wikipedia is wrong?!?!?!?
Shocked, Shocked I say!
So Chuck Berry never played a Gretsch in his career?
I thought they were part of his arsenal in his early days and then he moved to Gibbys later.

"Don't Forget Me"is a great book that came out about Eddie a few years back. In covers how/ where he found his 6120.. no mention of a 'spare'.

Great book that, Don't Forget About Me , The Eddie Cochran Story
By Julie Mundy and Mr Darrel Higham
Thanks, JC. Eddie never owned a spare 6120. He even borrowed Johnny Meeks 6120 whilst on an Australian radio show in 1957 - he was on tour there with Gene Vincent & The Blue Caps and Little Richard - because his guitar wouldn't stay in tune!!
Hi Darrel - any chance of a gig list update on your website? We're in need of a shot of rockabilly up here in Norfolk, UK!
Best wishes.
