Carl Perkins was great! I first heard his stuff courtesy of The Beatles.
I saw a vid of him once playing some delay thing, but without using any effects - I was completely blown away, and haven't been able to find it again at all... so if anyone has a link...! ;-)

I saw that, too! Did that not blow you away? He gave a little speech about how in the old days they didn't have boxes to make you sound like Sun Records, and then BAM! The dude comes out with delay from his hands. It was on a "Tribute to Carl Perkins" or something like that. He had Slim Jim Phantom on drums, Lee Rocker on upright bass, George Harrison played a tune or two with him. -

Seeing him do that delay thing kind of "scarred" me a little, I think (for the better). That's when you KNOW you're looking at the Real Deal. The guy had no pretense to him. He plugged in, stepped up to the mic, and let you judge for yourself. The Real Deal!

An old black man that I used to work with would say "some cats got it; and some ain't." Well, Carl Perkins had it. His car wreck came at a bad time (if there ever is a good time); but he definitely left his mark. I was singing and playing "Blue Suede Shoes" when I was 12. Back then I had a high dollar Rex guitar. Looked like it was sawed out of a 2X12 with a band saw. Neck like the big end of a Willy Mays baseball bat. $59.95 new; but it was second hand when I got it - $25 my Dad paid for it.
Go Cat!!!

I stumbled across that one day, while playing and not realizing I had inadvertently switched off the delay, playing with just reverb (one more advantage of playing Chet-style).

Here you go, Catdaddy1967, the echo thing starts at about the 30-second mark. The look on George's face says it all.
