Nah... it's not really. Russia judged the weapon to be far too powerful for practical purposes. It was only detonated once as a demonstration, at 50mt, not 57mt - half of the weapon's potential yield.
Incidentally, the mushroom cloud from this baby went up 37 miles. That's seven times higher than Mount Everest.
I must say, I find the history of nuclear weaponry fascinating, probably because it is just that bit frightening AND because it really does shed light onto the psychology and nature of mankind - when it comes down to it, we don't trust each other all that much... It's hard to stomach that after Nagasaki and Hiroshima, countries still insist on building these things - some countries more so than others.
