There was a recent tread about musicians that could play and sing ...
Well ... Marty sure could sing and Grady sure could play i
OK - it's two guys ... but what a combo!
Too bad the camera didn't capture Grady ...

And then there is this!
And this...
And this...
And lastly with Merle Haggard...
thank you, sir. that was a treat. that last one with Merle Haggard was quite a surprise. ole Merle sounded pretty close to Marty's singing. but they sure looked like they were having alot of fun. to me, Marty Robbins was one of the greatest singers of Country Music. his voice had such a range. it was truly unique. thanks.

Great voice control. Devil Woman has always been one of my favorites; but Marty always put everything he did on the top shelf. Grady Martin certainly did a great job of backing up for Marty. El Paso has to be one of the great country acoustic guitar rides in history.
They used to introduce Marty Robbins as the boy with the tear in his voice. He was a great one for sure.

Chet, amen, amen, amen!
Marty with Grady were hard to beat. I have read that those great passing lines that Grady played on El Paso were done in one take on a borrowed guitar. Flawless!
One up for that, 57. You know I'd have to like that. I knew Merle was influenced by Marty early in his career but didn't know he had him down that well!
Jet-Head, it makes the head spin, doesn't it?
You bet!
Somewhere in these pages there was a thread about favorite songs with outstanding lead guitar work. El Paso with Grady's beautiful gut-string lines got one of my mentions.
I never tire of it.
How about the you tube clips of Marty and Jerry Byrd doing the Hawaiian tunes they are awesome
If I could choose any guitar player to play just like, it would be Grady Martin.
Yep ... and thanks ... for all of the above comments ...
I'm glad that you lads enjoy that stuff as much as I do ...
