Matt F said: I have to agree with you there isn't much that you can't play on this guitar and it works.....It's fun to own a guitar like this and really cop the tone it seems to have been intended for. However, that brings me back to the there isn't much that you can't play on this guitar.
Here's another lesson in the true diversity of the 6122-1959. Although not for everyone, you'll have to agree that these guitar do it all:

In addition to all the pretty things these guitars can do, I really love the sound of this guitar FLAT-OUT ROCKIN'!

Very Cool! I play mine through a Peavey 5150 II and it makes a beautiful noise. Also sounds great through my '65 Marshall JTM 45 and Vox AC 30 cranked to 10!!!

great thread on a great guitar. the 6122-59 is number one on my list for guitars to acquire.
what's the story on the natural 6122-59? these were floating around a couple years ago, around the same time the country club anomalies were put out. is there any information as to whether or not these were "accidents?"

Well I am the new proud owner of one of these and I just had to chime in.
My interest was kindled by this thread and my love of Chet's sound and I bought a used model without getting the opportunity to play it.
I currently own a 57RI Duo Jet, White Falcon LDS (both with Duncan Dyna's) and a 6120TM (TV Classics) and if I had to have only one Gretsch, well the 6122 1959 would be it.
This model is special. I can get that twangin' rockabilly tone that I play with my band, a great Chet tone and also a beautiful jazz tone.
I've owned quite a few modern Gretsches (and a couple of older ones) and as a modern Gretsch, this one has more vintage mojo than any other "new" Gretsch guitar I've played.
I have instantly bonded with this guitar and can hardly put it down!
Thank you to Paul Yandell and Fred Gretsch for bringing this guitar to life.

I love this site! I went to a music store in March, picked the 6122-1959 off the rack and could not believe how it played. It was sitting among other CG's and White Falcons and clearly was above them all. I went into a "stupor" for weeks trying to figure out how to get one and finally I saw a used one at Guitar Centers and have been in guitar heaven since. Not only does it sound good with Chet's finger style but I've done some blues and surf music with the overdrive and got a great sound!
