PSA - Spruce-Top Club (I Think) on the 'bay

  1. It doesn't say as much on the listing, but the grain on the top is so bloody straight I don't know what else it could be. Link.... Tempting to get another blonde Club, but that might be considered "excessive" by the home office delegation.

  2. I can't be sure - sent a note to see if I could get a good pic of the grain pattern on the top. It would be nice to have a matching pair - a Dyna and Filter set of spruce clubs. I thought for sure it was spruce from the pics, but then I watched the video he had posted and I couldn't tell.

  3. That appears to be a spruce topped Club in a natural finish. It is the correct year for the batch that made it out of the Terrada factory. I would say that you are making a safe bet when you say that is a spruce top.

Honestly, I wouldn't want to tip the owner off about having such a unique instrument. The price might start climbing.

  4. Ergh. Gettin gassy.

  5. NICE !

  6. very nice... i think it is a spruce top. the price is not the best but if i had the spare cash i would jump on this.

it's been said before but i will say it again here, the blonde country club makes for a much classier, understated white falcon.

pair this with a spruce dyna club and we're talking pure hedonism.

  7. I thought most of the "oops" ones were Dynas; a filter 'oops' would be pretty rare indeed.

Personally i think spruce/dynas and maple/filters on the Clubs will be the optimal balanced duo -- thats what im working toward as we speak -- but filter/spruce could be nice too.

  8. Let me see, where'd I stash that extra couple thousand........ ;-)

Oh Yeah, IF I had the spare bucks! :D

  9. The guitar appears to be a 2005 year model by the serial number; however, that headstock sure makes me think that it is a pre-FMIC Club. I know it's not, but does the top of the headstock look odd to anyone?

  10. Why?

Just because it's black, instead of matching blonde?

    Or what?

It would be a little sweeter if they matched, but it's still GreTscH Gorgeous!

And a Long Way Beyond Good Enough!

  11. For what it's worth: the top looks very similar to my '07 spruce CC. Here's a Link... the picture isn't great but it may suffice. When I bought the guitar, it had filters in it but I went on a rather irreverent modding spree. From what I can see, I feel confident that the Club on the 'bay is the same model as mine but the two years difference in date of birth make me a bit hesitant.

  12. No international shipping dagnabit!! Otherwise it would be mine bwahahahahaha!!! !#$@%

  13. I think it's been around for a while. Not sure, but maybe listed back when JoBigsby and MSD were buying theirs a couple of months ago?

  14. The FIltertron versions are more common (not that this is a particularly common guitar with the natural finish and spruce top. Not many slipped out of the factory in this configuration) . The blonde spruce topped dynasonic equipped models are more scarce. Guitar center sold the blonde spruce topped clubs with filtertrons. I also saw one at the store where I purchased my 2005 Country Club. I recall looking at the serial number to check the date of manufacture. 2005 is a legit date for this guitar. That guitar is an original Gretsch guitar that shipped out as part of a limited batch of instruments.

I think the price is spot on. Used clubs in great shape go for that sort of price. This one is a little more rare. The shop where I saw the natural topped club refused to sell me the guitar for the price I wanted. I went with a caddy green filter equipped 6196T model instead. I believe I paid $1737 for the club is 2008. The shop owner wanted considerably more for the natural finish spruce topped club. I believe he was asking $2500 for the new instrument then. What have folks been paying for these in used condition?

  15. otterbean.. i think you are right... filtertron spruce clubs were/are more common than the spruce dynasonic clubs. but i couldnt tell you why. :)

somebody please correct me if i've got this wrong, but i think the bigsby equip'd, 'T' model was higher production than the standard model.. add to that that the caddy green is higher production than the other finishes and you have some rare-ish natural and sunburst country clubs out there. the caddy green in both 'T' and standard models are spruce tops, right? the 'oops' models are wrong finish AND wrong pickups/trim.. meaning spruce top dynasonic naturals and sunbursts.. this particular guitar is a 'semi-oops'.. meaning wrong finish but right pickups/trim.

otterbean - maybe i've got a little more scot in my blood, but i thought the 'buy it now' price was a little high. i would say $1600-$1700 would be a fair used price for that guit .... mind you considering the rarity of this specific guitar, like i said, if i had 2thousand to burn, i would pay the buy it now price and be a happy man. i bought my spruce dyna club for $1300 used a couple years ago.

  16. Why? Just because it's black, instead of matching blonde? Or what? -- Stingker

No, I was thinking that it was the curvature of the top of the headstock that somehow looked slightly different to me. It appeared slightly reminiscent of the pre-FMIC headstock shapes. Looking at it again this morning, however, it doesn't strike me quite as unusual.

Never mind. Move along. Nothing to see here.
