My new (to me) Hot Rod

  1. When I first joined this board, I think it was Suprdave that mentioned: "Welcome to the addiction" Well....I'm addicted...at NJdevil (& others, I think) suggestion I was saving up for a Black Phoenix, but jumped the gun & purchased this early Setzer Hot Rod...I'm really happy with it & it plays so smooth (like butter! :P ) It's a 2000, I know the newer ones are probably better, but the price seemed right on this one! I really love the sound, & the way it feels, will be putting it on the Gear page tomorrow. I'm real happy with both GreTsches I've acquired, a nice vintage & a "newer" one.... I noticed on the pick guard it doesn't have the Hot Rod label..has it been changed or maybe it's not on the early ones...

  2. Bravo BeatlEddy, congrats on your beautiful new guitar. The addiction is hungry and must be fed. :D

  3. Thanx precio265 !!! ;-)

  11. I love the concept of the Hot Rot and that's my favorite color in the line. How does it sound?

    Congratulations.

  12. Based on what you wrote, that spicy red mama is the right one..... It's a beauty and be proud!!! You like the price, love the guitar and she'll love you back. Every time you open that case it'll seem like Christmas morning and now you know you got the right one. Congratulations!!!

  13. Love my candy apple red 'rod. I wasn't married to it tho until I took off the 10s and went with 11s. It felt better, played better, stayed in tune better, and the TVJs sounded better- especially the bridge pup.

  14. Thanx Guys! Yes NJDevil, it does feel like Christmas each time I open that case! :D caliban335 it sounds great, but I'm going to change the strings on it, right now it has Ernie Ball slinkys (.010 to .046) I did a little research here & went ahead & ordered a set of Chet Atkins rhythm & blues pure nickel (.010 to .048) ....now thinking maybe I should have went with 11s..ruger9, what brand did you put on yours?

    – WIREDTURTLE here SINCE2002

Actually, I had 12 TI flats on the Broadway... way too dark and thuddy. Muddy even. (this is with a rosewood bridge; on the Hot Rod's Compton I'm sure flats would be a different story). Switch to 12 TI Rounds on the B'way and it sounds great! I also got a bone saddle rosewood bridge for it, to again try flats... the bone should brighten them up a bit.

How you feel about Pyramind vs TI?

  18. Congrats !!! I kinda like those Hotrods, too. I fancied buying one of the purple ones once upon a time. :D

  19. Thanx! Purple would be a cool color! 8-)
