Has anyone used the GFS NYIII pups? I had bought a Special Jet with the DeArmond 2000 single coils and want to replace the bridge with a high output humbucker (looking for that '79 1000 "Beast" Dimarzio sound). The thing is I want to keep the stock look so I can convert it back to original and the only two companies that I know that make a direct Dearmond replacement are GFS and TV Jones. My first choice of course would be the TV Jones Powertron Plus but it is so expensive that I would be extremely diappointed if it didnt get me that sound. But for around $50 if that GFS NYIII can give that sound... Well I'd be all smiles. Of course I could go straight to the source and try and see if the Dimarzio Super Distortion Soapbar style p/u fit in the Dearmond routing... I am interested in everyones opinion on these two pups and anyones experience in replacing Dearmonds with the soapbar style p/u... Cheers

I have a Powertron, and if you're looking for a high output "PAF" style tone from it then I think you'll be disappointed. It's still very much a Filtertron, just a bit hotter.
That said, I haven't tried a Powertron plus.

Thanks for the 4-1-1 Valentino! I was afraid I would be disappointed. I think I will try and see how well a soapbar Super Distortion replaces the DeArmond. I just want that "beast" sound. The Beast really is a great playing and sounding guitar its just so damn ugly!
