The price tag?
It's I think, sound etc mostly comes from the different pickups (stock filters vs TVs) and the bracing.. I think the LTV has trestle bracing vs the soundpost (not sure) on the g6118t..
Also, no idea how much it changes the tone, but it sure changes the look.. The lacquer doesn't reflect and doesn't look like plastic like the poly finish on the g6118t.. (It could also look like a mirror.. Or in some cases you wouldn't notice the difference, kind of depends..)
I have a G6118T, now if I had to money for a LTV I would have done that. But nonetheless, the G6118T is a great guitar in my humble opinion.

I can not tell you of any differences as I only have a 6118T. Its a great guitar, I replaced the SCB with RBB. Bought the axe used for $999.00.

Yeah, the pickups should be the main tonal difference. The difference in the finish, to my eye, isn't that great. There's a local LTV that's pretty damn shiny, just like a poly finish.

I think you will be plenty happy with a 6118T.....unless you ever try an LTV.
I say if you can afford it, save yourself the trouble and get the LTV. That is, unless you really prefer sound post over trestle. In that case, make sure the guitar actually has a sound post instead. I know of at least one report of a 6118T that came with Trestle even though the specs say sound post.
If you don't know the difference in the tone, I recommend trying to find the two examples and/or search this site (with Google advanced search) for the quadrillion threads explaining and comparing the bracing.
In a nutshell, the Trestle gives a more focused tone with more feedback resistance. The sound post, being a lighter bracing, is more airy and hollow sounding.
I personally love the look of a lacquer finished guitar over a poly, but I doubt anyone here is going to tell you that the finish is is going to affect the sound of the guitar too much. Theoretically the thinner finish would let the top resonate more but the bracing negates that,so.....
All in all, the magic is in the pickups and you can change those out easily enough so, just get one.

Thanks guys.I'm familiar with the laquer finish and trestle bracing as I have sslvo. Pleased to hear good reports on the standard G6118T.Really love the look of these guitars. Could anyone comment on the neck profile. Do they have relatively chunky necks? Cheers.

Mine has the most comfortable profile I've ever felt. Not chunky at all, but not really thin either. It just fits in your hand really well with a nice soft V shape to it. The only neck I've ever felt that beats it in terms of comfort is the Jimmie Vaughan Strat.

I've owned 8 modern Gretsches (none Setzer models mind you) and the necks have all been pretty similar. They are the most comfortable guitars that I have ever played. If you are used to or prefer the radius on your Setzer, then you may consider that but for me, I am more comfortable with Gretsch (far more)than any other guitar I have touched. For me, the necks are perfect.

Ok great! As you've probably gathered I haven't had the chance to play either one here (In Oz). Years ago I played what I was told was an originalG6118T Anniversary and the the neck was really fat/baseball like. I don't mind big necks as I have big hands but this was over the top. Sounds like both models are more conssistant now. Cheers.

I'm in that camp -- I bought a brand new 2008 6118T off the peg at a local shop, and it's got trestle bracing. I love it.
Gretsch's website just says "N/A" in the bracing specs.

mrock, If you've already got an SSLVO the 6118T-LTV is going to sound perilously close to the Gretsch you have. With a body that's a 1/4 inch deeper, the Setzer might be a smidgen deeper and louder than the Trestle Braced 6118. But they are nearly the same guitars.
For something different in an Anniversary I suggest trying the new Jaguar Tan 125th model. With ML Bracing and Powertrons the 125 produces a distinctly different tone.
I have and enjoy an SSUGR and the 125th Anniversary. Both are wonderful instruments which complement each other by tapping a different vein of the Great Gretsch Sound. Might be worth a look

ML bracing is a new type of bracing Gretsch developed for the 125 Annie that - as best I can describe it - is kind of a cross between trestle bracing and a sound post. There are parallel "bars" bracing the top that are connected to the back by smaller post-sized bit. Think of it as being braced by half of a capital "H".
Sound-wise it supposedly opens things up a bit more than trestle-braced guitars, while still retaining some of the feedback resistance.
All I know is - it sounds awesome!

Good point Tom. A Trestle braced Anni with Classics is the same guitar as a SSLVO just a different color and different fingerboard radius.

I've got a 6136T-LTV and it's amazing. Very open sounding and loads of sustain! Worth the extra cost to get a guitar that's built like the
58-61's. tonaly very close to my59 dbl.Anni and63 Country Club
