I can't open the last thread I put up so I'm giving this another shot and adding TV's to the mix. I want to get a New Falcon I'm and not sure which pups to go with. Im still green when it come to Gretsch's (old Fender dude) Any input on the sound difference's would be greatly appreciated. I plan to use it for all styles of music but mostly Blues and Rock.
FilterTron, DynaSonic's or TV classics on a White Falcon

Honestly,,,coming from a Fender background, the Dynasonics are going to be more familiar to you. The Filtertrons are great all around pickups, and are probably a bit more versatile than the Dyna's, but the single coil goodness and snap that the Dynasonics produce is closer to a Fender type sound.
You can't really go wrong either way though. If you are going for a early rockabilly/ twangier sound, the Dyna's are your ticket. For a more jazzy, rounder sound, that still has a ton of twang, the Filtertrons will get you there (especially, TV Classics)
And you DEFINATELY can't go wrong with a White Falcon......!

I'd go TV Classics every time, but Dynas come in a very close second.

Whichever factory pickup option you choose, you wouldn't necessarily be stuck should you have a change of heart.
If you buy a Falcon with some version of the Filter'Tron, the Magna'Tron would be an easy retrofit should you later decide that you just can't live without the "DeArmond-style twang" with the addition of hum canceling.
Also, should you buy a Dynasonic Falcon, TV offers the Dyna'Tron, which is a TV Classic in Dynasonic cover.

I've just put TV Classics in my '05 Falcon. I had them in my 6120. Just love them.
I was "raised" on loving a Falcon with Filters. It's the Stills/Young thing I guess.
That being said, I love the Dynas in my DuoJet, and I'm doing a Dyna + something else in my 6120...now that it's pupless
For Falcons, I gotta have TV Classics, but the Gretsch "HS" Filters are nice too, Just a lot darker with less sparkle and growl.

Hey Thanks guys. Some great pups info hear. Seems like the TVs will give me the best of both worlds plus hum canceling. Im a bit confused about the Dyna's. I was under the impression that they were not hum canceling pups from what i've read in the past. Do they (are they) make a hum canceling Dyna? and do they sound as good. I remember when Fender came out with the first noiseless pickup, they were tone less as well as noiseless. Looking forward to your reponse's

Dynas probably hum cancel when both the neck and bridge are working these days. Probably because one is reverse wound/reverse polarity to the other. Personally I like Dynas better. More bite and cut. Filtertrons are a thicker jazzy sound and Dynas are more rock and twang.

Duncan Dynas are reverse wound, Gretsch RI Dynas are not.

Im looking for hum canceling. As much as I like the singles for clean (like p90s or a Fender single in the neck pos) I play for a living and I have been in some situations where the hum is unbearable. Whatever I get I want to use Gretsch pups and keep the guitar original thats why I want to make sure I make the right choice of Falcon model. Im leaning towards the TVs. G6136T-LTV White Falcon Lacquer/TV Jones. One sweet machine-expensive but any well made guitar these days all have big price tags. Compared to some of the ridiculous choices that are commanding prices of 5 grand and up this still seems reasonable.(doable)

You can't go wrong with that choice, JMH. I would point out that Gretsch Dyna's do not seem as noisy as Fender single coil's (to me, anyway).
I had trouble opening that last thread, too. I wonder what gives with that?

Thanks, my first thread never worked not sure why. I just checked the tv Jones web site http://www.tvjones.com/pickups/tv_ht.htm and man those TV-HTs have a great clean twang sound. Sparkle city,oh yea. I decided to go with the TV classics I think they will work the best for me.

JHM, if you are still in the debating mode, rather than already having arrived at a decision, I would recommend that you do some searching in the archives of this site. Many have written, including providing sound samples, of the Filters and Dynas and it is really enlightening.
I know that Proteus did a shootout where he compared the Filters and Dynas, but I can't seem to find it. I bet that, if you dropped him a message, he could point you to it immediately.
But, here is a very informative article that Proteus wrote about the Dynasonic pickups that will keep you learning new things for a while.
In Search Of ... Dynasonic Facts, Fiction, Myth, and Truth
EDIT: Here is another with sound samples, but I don't think that this is the one that I recalled Proteus doing which directly compared the Dynas and Filters. But, you still can observe each of the pickups in action here.

I've played a number of Filter-equipped Falcons, several with TVs and a least one with Dynas.
The Filters and the TVs are both great-sounding, clear, bright pickups with lots of Gretsch sparkle. The Dynas gave it a different character. It's a great sound for Rock, especially if you want a nasty, on-the-edge sound.
With either pickup choice there is a lot of difference in sound between the neck and bridge pickups. The Setzer Black Phoenix that I played had a striking range of sounds available, something that I find all the more amazing in view of the fact that there is no tone control or individual pickup volumes.

Frankly, I can't remember if mine has the Gretsch Filters or TV's Classics. I know that I have some Classics in another Gretsch, but I am thinking that my Falcon simply has the Filters. I know, in any event, that I do not have the Dynas in my Falcon.
Somehow, I actually find the Filters to be twangier, for my ear, than the Dynas. Now, I know that that runs contra to everything that Proteus and every other Dyna fan on the GDP says, but perhaps "twanginess" is all in the ear of the beholder. Also, I am not sure that I would say that the Dynas sound like a Tele to me, as some others have suggested. But, there is an unmistakable difference between the two, with the Dynas clearly having a sharper edge than the Filters.
I suppose, JMH, that this dilemna merely gives you reason to have two Gretsches...one with Dynas and one with Filters.

Have to agree with Rick12, my expeinces with TV Filters is that they have plenty of "twang", and with a heavier pick attack, they "growl".
Dynas to me are a raw, edgy, and have a "clankiness" to them.
I love them both, for different types of music, but I like Filters in a Falcon.

Just want to thank everyone for all the great info and links. From The sound exsamples I've heard the Dynas do sound a bit clanky or nasal. I think I like the Filters, TVs or Hilos Better. But strings amps and guitar models can make them all sound different.
