Lee thats a great looking Gretsch you have there, the 400 that is. I can't tell from the pic but does it have cat's eyes sound holes or f-holes? Do you string yours with flats or rounds?

wenzel, I'm with you, spruce tops are more to my liking too. No matter what pickups, P90s, DeArmonds, FilterTrons, Gibson humbuckers, spruce tops I prefer the tone.

I didn't buy my Country Club hoping to make some money on it but do you think over time this guitar will be worth a lot more than it is now? I'm just saying because of the rarity and what you get in this guitar? For example, I recall about 4 years or 5 years ago the Keith Scott Gretsch was going for pretty cheap on Ebay. Maybe $1,250 or so but now they are going for about $2,000 or $2,250 on Ebay. Big diff. So wondering if the Club in blond especially will be going for a lot more in the near future.

DeArmond said: Scott when you say with flats it nails the L-5 tone can you clarify that? L-5s I think came with Alnico V Staple Magnet pickups then later with humbuckers. Maybe even P90s at one time therefore there are lots of different configurations. What configuration does it nail with flats?
FWIW, my Filtertron, spruce-top Club absolutely nails the Wes sound af a humbucker L-5 if I use the tone switch but with the tone wide open it sounds very clear and bright, definitely preserving the Gretsch character. -

Mark you have flatwounds on yours? What brand? I have a Country Club with humbuckers too. A '64 but I have rounds on it. I think that year the guitars were maple not spruce. The top looks like maple so even if I put flats on it it wouldn't nail Montgomery's tone. But my other with flatwounds and Dynas sound kinda Scotty Moore when he had an L5 with Alnico staple magnet pickups but the sound is more clean I guess you can say, less dirty or something, you know less gritty break up.

Two things:
Delving deeper into the mystery of this spruce-top club, I'm wondering if this "mistake" was the only 6193 that came out of the Terada factory for a year or two. Has anyone seen or does anyone own an '06 or '07 6193 that has a maple top and "aged" hump block inlays?
And also, I've decided to put mine up for sale for the $1900 Rocky got for his. If anyone is interested, send me a message. I'll be putting it in the garage sale soon.

I'd like to A/B my spruce top Dyna Club with a maple top Dyna club. Love to hear how different they sound.

I'm certain that the maple one would be a bit brighter with a crisp attack. Either is a fine guitar.
