Nashville-based Gibson Guitars, meanwhile, is hoping to compete with pirates by offering lower-priced versions of its guitars.
"Piracy is fueled by the fact that people can't afford the true brand-name product," said Henry Juszkiewicz, the company's chairman and CEO. "We want to offer the Chinese consumer legitimate alternatives."
Previously, Gibson guitars cost the equivalent of several hundred dollars in China,putting them well out of reach of Chinese workers, many of whom earn $100 a month or less, the company said.
About four years ago, the company introduced a guitar that sells for less than $100,cheaper than an ordinary Gibson but still more expensive than imitations, which often cost about half as much as a real Gibson, Juszkiewicz said. Source here
