Hello to all of you, I've been hanging on this great forum for a while and headed to several topics discussing things like pots, spruce tops, pickup polarity. Here I just want to display my personal observations. My Country Club G6192 is solid spruce top sunburst with Dynasonics. I have to say pots and pickups and everyting else in my Club is 100% original, fitted at Gretsch factory and was not touched until now. While doing some maintainance and mods (to get „out of phase“ sound) I noticed these facts:
SPRUCE TOP – I removed bridge pickup and found out that the top is not 1 layer, but is actually two layers. Upper layer is solid spruce, about 1/5“ thick, bottom layer is about 1/10“ thick, probably maple, not sure. It does not dissappoint me, it is just interesting fact.
PICKUP WIRES POLARITY – I also removed neck pickup volume pot and found out that white wire from pickup is used as hot, and red wire is grounded, soldered directly to the pot body together with third wire (shield). (BTW, I switched white and red wires to get „out of phase“ sound).
VOLUME POT VALUES – when I removed neck pickup volume pot (marked CTS, but no value), I also desoldered wires from both ungrounded lugs. Then I took measurements with my digital voltmeter. Pot value is 435K (= I assume 500K, dont know why it is only 435K, my meter is working properly). When set to 50% of its rotation, I measured 50K between grounded lug and the center lug (wiper). So it is AUDIO taper. (I did not take mesurement on bridge pickup volume pot and master volume pot.)
Hope that might be interesting for somebody on this forum.
