What with all these jams going on or being planed all around the country I was wondering if anyone in the southeast would be interested in one? I'm just testing the waters because as much notice as possible would be great (as it is, I'm probably going to have to learn power chord versions of whatever songs anyone wants to play) to afford time to plan and practice and all that jazz.

Of course, people not from the southeast can come as well. Maybe some folks from up north can make a vacation of it and get away from the snow?

I'd love to see this happen, and if you guys would LIKE to do it in my little town, that would probably be fine, I'd just need to find a place to have it. There are hotels-a-plenty and the town is small so any hotel would probably be close to wherever this would go down. But I'm open to other cities. I'm sure my wife would love to take a little vacation and see someplace other than here. Her dream has always been to travel and now with a baby she thinks those days are behind her.

So I'm open to any suggestions anyone might have. I don't really know what the first step would be if we had it here. I guess I could find out if there's a local VFW and if there is how much rent is. That's what the punkers do for their shows (in other towns and cities mind you, I think I'm in the vast minority of people who enjoy punk here) and I can't imagine it costing too much money. And we could turn up the amps a ton more than you could at my apartment (not to mention there would be more elbow room). I'll even bring earplugs for everyone!

But like I said, I'm open to suggestions about dates and locations. Please don't hold back.

A studio would be best. I've got a few Nashville connections, so I could ask around there, if anyone is interested.

I'm told Sun Studio in Memphis used to be available at night after the tours ended. How great would that be?

I'd be open to either Nashville or Memphis. I've only driven through them many times but never got the chance to actually visit.

I'll be there for the Beale Street Music Festival, I guess I could ask.

Nashvegas would seem a strong central pull...a bit further for the Pap than for me, but it could pull mid-westers too...like the Proteus.

I'd come to Nashville just to listen if nothing else and meet some of the fine people on this board. Might even bring my friend Mike and we could some Johnny Cash stuff if you'd like, he sounds very much like John and I do a pretty good Luther if I say so myself. I'm just about 2 hrs. North of Nashville.

It is about eight hours for me, but my brother and a few friends live there. I only need the smallest excuse to visit.

Can you guys give me an idea on availability? Otter mentioned Final Exams - I'm guessing that is Mid-June or so. I'm traveling for work the second week in April and again at the end of that month.

Once we get an approximate headcount, I'll be happy to look for some possible places, if that is OK with everyone.

Gear is another open question. I expect to bring one combo amp, guitar and a pedal or two, unless there is something else we need.

I've been assuming we'd get a local to engineer the recording for us, but I probably should not do that.

Anything else anyone wants to air out here?

Here's an idea:

Sure, there could be the requisite free for all jam session. But what if those who wished to do so had a chance to sort of "do their thing" for the other GDPers at this? Now, if 50 people show up, this may be a problem, but if 10 or 20, I could see it.

I would find this quite interesting to hear "styles" or even just "favorite edge of the bed strumming" people enjoy playing.

Now you've got a Gretsch-fest. "What do you like to do with your Gretsch?"

I for one would be quite embarrassed about doing it, but I'd enjoy hearing the others. It could be a rotation I guess...group jam a little, listen a little...

This includes duets, duals, and trios..."hey, you two guys hammer out a song." Then you get to hear them.

In this way we really would meet fellow GDPers and get to know them a little bit in a way that matters.

Edit: Maybe this would indeed be entertaining enough for Deed and Duane to feel comfortable.

Nashville would be fine with me, and the mid-june date sounds good too. That would give me enough time to save for the hotel, gas, and food. I'd hope anyway.

I'm with nobody. Depending on the head count I'm up for watching people do their own thing. Maybe some of the attendees can get together via email or something with song ideas so it wouldn't necessarily be just someone all alone on stage. It could be a few guys who had been practicing a song for this occasion.

As for gear, I'll bring what I can. My annie for sure and if it's June I just might bring my champ clone to show off a bit.

Actually that would be fun if it were on private property way out in nowheresville.

I like the idea of picking some songs and circulating tabs. I'd sure like to see everyone play at least at some point. And we could have the requisite EVERYBODYGRABAGUITARFORTHEFINALE - maybe like "Rebel Rouser" or "Rumble" with about 20 guitars.

If we use a studio, numbers count (space limitations, etc). If we record at an outside location, public or private, that would be different.

The West Coasties had a good idea with the signing up for songs. I'm sure we could have 3 or 4 (or more) groups doing different songs.

We'll need bass and drums, of course.

Mid-June... might work for me, might not, depending on the weekend. I'm gonna be in Vegas (Las Vegas, not NashVegas!) for about a week in June, probably over Father's Day weekend. Nevertheless, if I'm in town, on whatever particular weekend, I'll be there!

I really want to make this work, and have numerous ideas, can possibly help with some logistics. It's only a few hours from me, no problem.

June 21-22, y'know, yeah, MAYbe...BUT: that's Summer NAMM in Nashville, which could really work out, or make it tough, depending...

on things I don't know about yet.

I mean, it COULD be a cool overlap, for fairly obvious reasons, but it could be too much to cram into a couple of days.
