Ok, my drummer is coming. He's an awesome drummer BTW and I need to know if he needs to bring his kit? He has an electric roland and an awesome drum kit, or he can bring my Son's gretsch drum kit, which also rocks?
I am also requesting that we do the song "One After 909" by the Beatles or the Beatles version, not sure if they wrote it or not. The song chords are simple.
B, E, F# for the verses
E, B, C#, F# for the changes.
Anyone down for that song. If you don't know it, send me a PM and I'll email it to you.
Later, Chris

Chris I'm bringing a drummer too! We just talked tonight and decided he's not bringing his full set of Ludwigs. If there's not enough room we'll keep them locked up. He's an old crusty dog and not as fast as he used to be but in his day sent many away shaking their heads wondering how he did that! I was trying to fill him in on the songlist and I got a lot of Huhs and what's! I told him he'll do fine! He's been doing symphony for so long now I wanted him to get a chance to rock a bit.
My lists includes both Gretsch's the Tophat w the 15 inch cab. I don't think we need the Fargen but it's such a cool lil' amp I'd hate to leave it behind! I'm also bring the bass and the bass amp. No way are we going to be short on gear .........unless someone has a B3

Chris, have him bring his kit.
909 is fine, I'm sure
I think we are covered for drummers and possibly bass players.
Now, any guitar players going to show up?

Gary: No B3 here, but I was thinking of bringing a Vox Continental for "I'm Down" (at least).
Chris: Yes, "The One After 909" is Lennon/McCartney writ (why do I know that?). Sure you want to do it in B? That's going to make the high harmony pretty high. Life is easier a step down, in A. Also: what key do you want to do "I'm Down" in?
John: a bunch of questions...
Does your "possibly bass players" still include me taking turns? If so, on what songs do you want me to play bass? You know I'm feeling the need to prepare!
Do I need to bring a microphone, cable, and stand? Alpep says they have only two monitors. If so, will that be enough? I can bring a couple of raggedy floor wedges or my Hot Spots.
And -- are we to arrive at noon and start setting up, or do we arrive earlier and set up so that we can start playing at noon?

I'm arriving at 1100-1130 myself!
I'm bringing a mic and stand for myself as well.
Not sure what key to do I'm down in? G maybe? What key do the beatles do it in? I also prefer 909 in B since it's the original key. We'll work something out. The guitar parts in the change sound better going down to low E rather than staying up high on all guitars, that's why I play it the way they did it.

Hey, Chris,
Yes, the Fabs were "Down" in G.
On "909", I was advocating for A because I'm lazy! B is not a true problem for me; we can go with that easily.

Gary: No B3 here, but I was thinking of bringing a Vox Continental for "I'm Down" (at least). They have a piano there...I will not be bringing my Gulbransen Princess. Bring that Vox, and we'll be playing some Zombies perhaps?
John: a bunch of questions...
Does your "possibly bass players" still include me taking turns? If so, on what songs do you want me to play bass? You know I'm feeling the need to prepare! Yes Paul, and the usual I suppose, I'll jump in on the Perkins & Beatles ones I know if there are no other takers, and you can do All My Lovin if we even play that.
There is rumor(though not confirmed) of real bass players coming though, so we might not have to be so utilitarian this go round
Do I need to bring a microphone, cable, and stand? Alpep says they have only two monitors. If so, will that be enough? I can bring a couple of raggedy floor wedges or my Hot Spots.
We should be covered for all things PA related. I played there last night and the guy who will be there Sunday said that they are going to have a sound man.
That being said, if you feel the need to bring it, bring it.
And -- are we to arrive at noon and start setting up, or do we arrive earlier and set up so that we can start playing at noon?
Good question Paul.
OK Listen up!
Last night, I spoke with Roland, the gentleman running things at the Auction House Sunday, and he says that he will be there at about 11:30AM.
Any and all are welcome to load in at that time, but if you show up before hand, you might be waiting in front of an empty building.
Furthermore:
Chairs and tables abound in this place, so it is pretty comfortable.
Food will be in the concession nook towards the front of the building. You'll see it as soon as you come in.
There is a fridge in there for whatever drinks we bring, but it is a shared space, and we have been asked not to poach the shelves that are deemed"Not Ours"
I'll take a shot at I'm Down if you don't feel it Paul.
Chris...a McCartneyist?? LOL

Crowbone, my drummer is bringing my Gretsch drum kit and a PA just for the drums. It's a 200 watt JBL system that can crank! He has his own mic's and cables, so we are covered for drums too.
I am so excited for this event. I've been practicing the songs all day. I'm off for the next 4 days, so I get to practice a lot!!!
Also, I will have Tru-Arc bridges with me for sale as Proteus' unofficial salesman, so bring cash, you might be SURPRISED!!!!!!! The sound will kill you on the spot, they are that good!
I'll be doing a demo for anyone interested in the tone difference between a standard bar and the 3 different materials Proteus has had custom made for you.
VOTE: Should I wear my cowboy hat? I am the lone ranger afterall... I will wear a cowboy hat if you all want to laugh at me!

He really does not need to bring a separate PA....really.
You can only wear a cowboy hat if you wear a kilt as well...only because I don't have any pictures of anyone brave enough to wear both at once!

Guys, be sure to make some group "line-up" photos with your Gretsches in hand. And do think in terms of "album cover" shots if you have time. For posterity.
Perhaps we'll soon have an area of the GDP for the "Round-up Hall of Fame" photos.
We just never did anything of the sort in Nashville and really missed out...but we will next time.

See you then Al,
...and if you have any other interesting guitars that you want to drag out of the vault, we aren't snobbish about mixing them with Gretsches, are we fellers?
Steve,
Thanks for the reminder. I have a feeling that there will be more family members in tow with cameras (hopefully) than there were in Nashville too.
As I recall, Nashville was just too much fun playing, talking, and listening, for any one man to man a camera, or have a recording going the whole time.
Collectively, we got hundreds of shots which we posted on flickr, but as Nobody pointed out, never really got a group shot. that would be nice for sure.

Hey, John,
I can do "I'm Down" if we drop it to E. If we do it up in G, I'm singing the "George" backups alongside Chris's "John", and you take the "Paul" vocal.
Got that?
Chris sings John. John sings Paul. Paul sings George.
If we're in E:
Paul sings Paul. Chris sings John. John sings George.

Paul, that last part was funny! I can do I'm down in either key, so it don't mean a thang!
I'll tell my drummer he doesn't need to bring the PA then.

If any of you have an extra ambient room mic please bring it with you. I have one Shure 58 and a 57 but would like something a little wider. Unless we pull from the board which MIGHT be okay.

Hey, Chris,
I wrote, but deleted, the part where I discussed who played whose instrument in addition to the singing. It was quite the head-exploder, and would have been even more fun if your name were George.

Tried to post this hours ago, but something went ouch on your server Bax:
Chris sings John. John sings Paul. Paul sings George.
If we're in E:
Paul sings Paul. Chris sings John. John sings George
There actually may be another drummer coming named George...now if only Chris' name was Ringo
These songs are meant to be played in the key of FUN, so no points taken if you flub it(although they will be taping for EVERYONE to hear)
Curt - I have my studio mic. I guess I can bring that along.
Gotta get cookin!

Oct 11, 2008 6:59 a.m. FrequentFlyer909:
Hey, guys,
I ran through "I'm Down" last night. Dropping it down to E sucks all the mania out of it, and my singing can't jack it back up. I can do a little shouting, but you've got to be able to rock like a nut to sell this tune, and I fall short on that. John, it's yours to sing!
So: John sings Paul and plays Paul, Paul sings George and plays John, Chris sings John and plays George, unless John wants to play organ, in which case John sings Paul and plays John, Paul sings George and plays Paul, and Chris sings John and plays George. Or, if Chris wants to go all-John and play organ, it can be John sings Paul and plays Paul, Paul sings George and plays George, and Chris sings John and plays John.
Other iterations are possible... but are they necessary?
Paul/FF909
PS: No elbow glissandos on the 40+year-old Continental, please.
