Tonight I spoke with the owner of the Auction House, Marty Cobb.

He had a wedding to attend Sunday, so he and his family were all over in Philly, talking about our little shindig, because he got to see all the sweet guitars resting on couches, and being passed around like candy at a diabetic convention.

He told me that next time, we should make it longer, start earlier, and run it later if need be, and that he will be there with his Gretsch, with his whole family of guitar lovers.

I told him for sure!

Just never seems to be enough time, does there?

Marty's a good guy and I think what's truly unique is that we can put a bunch of guy's, and at some point girls, in a room with a lot of guitars and amps and it just works. This is the third time for me and it feels like I've known everyone for years and it's a reunion.

I read on another site that because there were so many things given away in Nashville that it would be difficult to have another small scale roundup because people wouldn't come if things weren't given away. Well we proved again that the true gift IS to play music with people that have similar interests. These events are something that I look forward to and have a great time just being there which happens way to infrequently in my life.

So thanks John for finding this place and all your effort getting it done. It was fun playing guitar with John, Chris, Paul and Aaron again. As usual it was great to play and meet new players so thanks all for a Gretsch day. .... Am I nuts, am I the only one that finds satisfaction when my amp gets so hot it smells!

EDIT: I'm pissed about the hiss in the MP3's but as mentioned it's better than nothing.

Boy no kiddin. THere is nothing better than burning amp smell. I have also noticed that if the amp is smelling particularly great and sounding better than it ever has, that means it is about to blow up. It has happened to me twice.

It only happened to me once, and it was with a 50s Gibson Les Paul tweed amp.

A tiny thing, sounded sweet for about an hour...then smoke.

Being that I regulate myself to that of a member of the audience I truly enjoyed myself! First off I enjoy the good company! Everyone was great there! It was great to meet a bunch of guys I talk to on a regular basis yet never met then see the ones I have met but not seen in a few months.

My words of wisdom for the day! There's not much better than pulled pork and hotsauce! And I have Mrs. Crowbones back with the coleslaw

There was a whole bunch of talent up on that stage. I know of all the talk about a round robin session next time around but it was mildly entertaining seeing 10 guys strapped up and waiting their turn!

Huhmm! Tim the silent drummer! On the way home he said he might of jumped in if someone broke into some southern fried rock. I told him what a crock. I don't know who was more bashful him or Billy's youngest who had his face buried in the back of the chair while his dad was trying to talk him into playing! The guy is extemely talented tho' I think he just didn't want to step in on everyones party. I know but drummers for my experience are moody. He was really impressed with Billy III and Fred's student and wished his students could step up like Billy did!

Nice Thanks RJ and Tim. I am lucky my boys are largely self taught. I can't play the drums to save my life. Billy is just a phenom. I imagine Aidan will be the same tho I don't pressure them at all they just seem to want to play.

So they got that going for them.... which is nice

Fine for me, but we'd have to secure a date soon. You know how busy the holidays get.

Like your recording, the vid cam has issues, though primarily volume drops as I think the circuitry has automated levelers, which do me no good here.

Scary video? Actually, pretty funny. Consider Holli was holding the camera, a woman who has a torn something or other cuff, a busted clavicle, and some ripped muscle from a car wreck a few months back. Plus, I think she was guitared out after the first three hours.

She hung in like a trooper though.

By the way, Wally sends his apologies. He's swamped at a new job and it takes him far from home.

I had a great time, but a round robin seems like a good idea for the next gathering...

Billy D - You know I was kidding ... That video of your two sons is awesome ... the Mozart family @ playtime ... Wow!

I wanted to post more to this thread, and send some PMs, but haven't found the time ...

Now I'm off to California for a week, without my computer ...

Hey I just had a blast taking it all in! I knew it was going to be limited action as in none that morning. I spent some time with each guitar before I packed them up the night before and I was hurting in the morning. I know when not to push it. I'm trying some new things with this arm to whip it into shape. There's a few things it affects but the sad thing it affects the most is with the guitar.

I know everyone was playing but I thought it funny how everyone was playing off the other! The round robin may be more organized but the jam was just too cool. I wouldn't throw it out all together.

I'll tell him next time he doesn't get in the door without setting up! I thought it a good thing to get him out there as he's been talking about quitting it altogether. I think that's one of the reasons he didn't step up. I know he's hates the gigs he's been doing!

Unfortunately, I don't think that will happen ... I just found the thread ... I'll be in southern CA mostly and then 2 days in San Fran ... Shoot - that does look like fun though!

Heck Yeah, I know that But it's true that last summer we did a gig at a Rock and Roll fesival and little Billy sat in, played guitar sang some Johnny Cash and also sang "Sedated" by the Ramones (y'know something new for the kids) after, this agent that I've kinda known comes up to me and I say "what'd you think, can you get us some bookings?" he looks at me and says, dead serious, "Uh, yeah maybe, you guys were alright. But uh, whats the kids availability, I could really do something with the kid." Nice.

And as a side story, while the show was going on Loud Ass Rock and Roll on a big stage, the little one, Aidan managed to fall asleep in his stroller like it was a lullabye. Only my Aidan falls asleep to screaming loud RnR

Perhaps a bit ambitious but we all play whenever we can anyway so why not? Not really worried about it becoming watered down because it's like sex and there's always a shower...
