Meet & Greet

2018 California Gold Rush Roundup Registration Has Begun! (WITH COR

1

The 2018 California Gold Rush Roundup is set to begin soon.

When: September 14-16, 2018 (These are the corrected dates. Please see Post No. 20 below)
Where: Camp Lodestar
6135 Blue Mountain Road
Wilseyville, CA 95257

Come to the Mother Lode region of California's Sierra Nevada mountains and join us for several days of Gretsch guitars, music, and fellowship with like-minded souls.

We will once again convene in the Sierra hamlet of Wilseyville (no relation to James, I presume) on the afternoon of September 7, 2018 where we will spend the weekend in the Mother Lode woods. It will be a tremendous time to play music, listen to others play, ogle Gretsch guitars (and other nice guitars are also always welcome), eat some good food, and renew your GDP friendships in real life.

Oh yeah. And Joe Carducci, product specialist from FMIC/Gretsch will be on hand to pass out the Gretsch Kool-Aid and maybe you will win a Gretsch t-shirt or a set of strings. Or maybe even a guitar. All you will need will be a lucky pick that drops from the guitar at the magic moment.

This year's theme is a non-musical theme: "This Goes to 11", which honors the fact that this is our 11th Roundup. Hard to believe how time has flown by, right?

Music is played by whomever wants to get up and play. For those who are not accustomed to playing with others, this will provide an excellent opportunity to dip your toes in the water and play in a band setting. Your fellow GDPers are all very supportive and will help you feel right at ease. On the other hand, if you are a veteran, then you will probably fit seamlessly into an impromptu ensemble as we have many very experienced musicians who attend our Roundup

Camp Lodestar is a denominational summer camp facility that we have been fortunate enough to have been able to rent the past few years. Sleeping quarters are dormitory style with bunk beds. You will bring your own sleeping bag or linens with you. However, for couples or families with children, we have some small cabins that we have been permitted to use. They will be made available on a first-come first-served basis for those who are registered. You will need to request one, however, at the time that you register. Asking for one in this thread won't reserve you anything but a smile from our Camp Manager, Jeff.

Meals are a part of the program at Camp Lodestar. The kitchen staff goes way beyond the call of duty to try to accommodate any unusual dietary needs. So, when you register, please inform me that you have a special dietary need and then describe it for me so that the kitchen staff will know what they can prepare for you to eat.

Registration Fees, which include lodging and all five meals [there is no registration fee per se]: Friday evening to Sunday morning: $180.00
Saturday lunch through Sunday morning: $100

Where can you have three days of musical fun for such an inexpensive price?

If you have an RV or trailer and wish to bring it to the Roundup, you may do so. However, there are no water/electric/sanitary hookups. You will need to be completely self-contained. You will park in a meadow about a five minute walk from the Lodge.

The registration fees for bringing an RV or trailer and having meals are as follows:

Friday night through Sunday morning: $105.00
Saturday lunch through Sunday morning: $60.00

If you have friends who wish to visit Camp Lodestar for the day, but not spend the night, and who wish to eat meals with us, please let me know that by sending me an email and I will let you know what the cost for them will be. We will need to know, however, that they will be visiting so that we can be sure that there will be sufficient food prepared.

Please register in the following manner:

  1. Send me an email at [CaliforniaRoundup] [at] [yahoo] [dot] [com] and tell me how many of you will be in your party, everyone's names, and the days/nights which you will be attending. Also, tell me if you have any special dietary needs and if you are a family or couple who are seeking a small cabin.

  2. PayPal the registration fees to me. My PayPal address to use is [my screen name] [at] [yahoo] [dot] [com]. (Don't use the California Roundup email address for PayPal'ng funds.)

You must use the Friends & Family option with PayPal for these prices.

If you have any questions, please ask before registering. You can send questions to [CaliforniaRoundup] [at] [yahoo] [dot] [com].

Okay, campers, This Goes to 11! Let's get ready to party in California Gold Rush Roundup style!

2

And if you haven't ordered a Roundup t-shirt yet, head on over to THIS THREAD and get your shirt(s) ordered.

3

And if you have a favorite song that you want to be able to play, and need some additional musicians to be familiar with it, try posting it in the Playlist Suggestion Page.

Before you post up the song, find it on YouTube and copy the URL and paste it into the "Link" box on the right-hand side of the page just below where you insert the name of the song and artist.

I have put up a song, Diamond Head, that I want FritzTheCat or Mel Waldorf, along with Rocky (if he comes) to join me on. My friend, Rick, will be on drums.

4

And let everyone else know that you will be attending the Roundup by heading over to the Who You Might See page and click on the button that says "Add me to the list".

6

I like the theme. Way to go Bob!

7

Hmmmm....

You guys still want to do these Roundup events, right?

9

Buy/Sell/Trade/Swap/Gift/Barter...

Have you been allowing the RoundUp to also be an Exchange?

I don't have a lot of extra, unused, or unwanted stuff, but someone might have a need or want...you know, it's a GAS thing!

You can most definitely bring gear to the Roundup to sell or trade. I purchased a guitar at the very first Roundup that we had in 2008 and I suspect that other guitars and amplifiers have been bought and sold over the years. In fact, now that I think about it, I bought an amplifier from Bonedaddy Keith at a subsequent Roundup at the Clair Tappaan Lodge.

14

Glad that you and Mrs. Cat will be there again this year, Fritz! It wasn't quite the same a couple of years ago when you guys did not attend.

15

Okay, it has been brought to my attention that I have committed a real bonehead mistake regarding the date of the Roundup.

I originally posted that everyone should "Save the Dates" for September 14, 15 and 16. I told Joe Carducci to set aside those dates, which he did and he booked his travel arrangements.

Then, when I made the contractual arrangements with Camp Lodestar, I booked the venue for September 7, 8 and 9.

Great move, right?

I have contacted the Camp Manager for Camp Lodestar. He told me that he does not see that the weekend of September 14, 15 and 16 is booked, but, he is not able to say that definitively until he can speak to the reservations office tomorrow.

So, if you are confused about the date based upon prior postings, please forgive me for causing this mess and know that I will do everything within my power to get the venue booked for the original weekend scheduled of September 14, 15 and 16.

Stay tuned for more details and announcements.

Well, that’s good because I did save the 14,15,16 and can’t attend the 7,8,9 because I have gigs!

19

Buy/Sell/Trade/Swap/Gift/Barter...

This is a swell idea. I have a number of things for sale that may be of interest to others, including a few Gretsch guitars.

20

Okay, I have now had it officially confirmed with the company which manages Camp Lodestar that we are on for the correct dates which are as follows:

Date: September 14-16, 2018
Where: Camp Lodestar
6135 Blue Mountain Road
Wilseyville, CA 95257

My apologies for the confusion that my error has created. But, we are now back on the dates for which everyone had reserved the dates on their calendars.

21

Thank god. I marked myself out 14 - 16 from work, then thought I had screwed up when I saw the earlier dates (which are now already booking up with clients). Thought I would have to reschedule people, which I try not to do.

Always happy when the screw-up is NOT mine...which is rare...

22

Looks like a good time.

Not a possibility for me this year.

Have fun everyone!

Lee

24

Tom, will you be bringing any of your bandmates or music pals?

Hi Bob, unfortunately, Mark moved to LA and has other plans. I worked on my drummer, who is very good and has a beautiful Gretsch drumset, but he says he is most likely out of town too. So, I'll have to give it a think and see who else I can get.
