Gretsch & Patrick Stump introduce the Electromatic Stump-o-Matic Corvette.
The official live introduction of the Stumpo came this afternoon on the Spirit of Rock-n-Roll stage, as Patrick played a short solo set featuring the guitar, his vocals, and songwriting.
But before the show, we talked for 10 minutes or so in the artist's lounge adjacent to the Green Room (where we web-slaves toil to bring you content). I found Patrick to be articulate, thoughtful, humble, and grateful for his signature guitar, and as far from spoiled by sudden success as a regular guy could be.
In fact, if you didn't already know Fall Out Boy was a big deal in the world of rock-n-pop, you'd never know it from talking to Patrick.
Here's the exclusive GDP interview!
Patrick Stump about the Stump-o-matic.
Once on stage with the guitar, Patrick apologized for not being a hot player, or a shredder, and then proceeded to demonstrate the value of a SONG, instead of hot licks. I hear FOB as carrying forward a grand tradition of melodic power pop. Every generation needs such a band, and I can't find fault with it. A good singer with a good song will trump a hot player with nothing to say – every time.
Here's Patrick, "unbanded."
