Wherein you are invited to find coverage, pics, and over 100 audio tracks from 37 bands and solo artists.
Viva Las Vegas represents and celebrates everything about the rockabilly/retro movement and "lifestyle": cars and bikes, fashion, hair, ink, dancing...
So it's not quite true to say it's all about the music – but the music is surely at the center of it.
And the term "rockabilly" today doesn't refer to a single musical style, it's lots of things - from hillbilly honky tonk to Western swing to straight up rock & roll to blues, country, psycho, surf, doo-wop, and a great swirling stew of (mostly) American roots styles. You'll hear all that and more in this thread.
The music comes in pure flavors, and it comes in a variety of hybrid flavors – and the diversity of bands at VLV, from all over the world, are a testament to the vitality and evergreen power of these styles. One thing they all have in common: it's live music, and people feel good when they hear it.
This thread will cover VLV's bands, though alas not all of them, and not in the depth I'd like. We don't have the time or the personpower to do them all justice. For that I apologize both to the musicians and to y'all.
I'll give each band (that I'm able to cover) its own post here, with pics and audio files.
Enjoy!
About the audio: some is better, some is worse: it depends on where I was standing, and occasionally I walked around to take pics while recording. (Understaffing!)
Likewise, levels are inconsistent - in a couple instances, I clipped the inputs for several measures before noticing.
Likelikewise, sometimes I don't even get the beginnings of songs. As professional audio recording (or even good bootlegging), it AIN'T – but it reflects the reality: one guy sampling all the flavors in a spread-out venue, and taking it on the fly.
It's interesting to hear the differences in the sounds of the rooms as well.
Note to artists: if you object to having your content appear here, please let me know and I will take it down immediately.
