I guess we only have the discomforts of the snow now ..., not so much of the 'fun'-side of winter.

You seem happy anyway! Well there's more time to work on the fingerpicking, I guess. I'm amazed at Paul Pigat's playing with a thumb pick. Does he use the nails or finger picks on the other fingers?

I have experimented a little with Brian Setzer's method of fingerpicking; just fingers and the pick tucked away under the index. It works. But I have to find out how to make music out of it. Anyway, I play other things for the moment. Maybe I should play a bit now. When do they wake up over there?

No snow here anymore. Long gone. Weirdly, it's 8 degrees celsius here at the moment - it feels like summer compared to the recent temperatures. I blame the foreigners.

I can't do the 'Setzer'-picking. When i can't use my index-finger, the rest won't move either!
When i'm fingerpicking (much more 'country-style' than Rockabilly-picking) i want to use all my fingers. Luckily i have very strong nails!

Let's say they deserve it. The flying reporter didn't allow himself many hours of sleep last night. And we don't know how long they stayed up yesterday.

Yes I do too. Specially the ones that live in warm countries with beautiful beaches, where they only eat great food and drink tequila while enjoying the shadow of a palm tree waving slightly in the breeze. -

I tuck away my pick under my middle finger. I learned that before I realized that maybe it isn't the best place to keep it if you want to move your fingers. But I do it so well that I kept it that way.
Trouble is that I have good nails except for the index finger, which sort of bends very easily and actually wears out very quickly from playing..... so I might just as well keep holding the pick. -

They key to having good nails is to file them everyday with a very fine file so they don't get any small cracks. That also makes them more stable. I learnt that from my classic guitar teacher.

Yeah, the nail on my index finger is a continue concern. When i'm playing with a pick, i still 'use' the nail for 'feel'. The right side of that nail is always 'sanded off'!

I always have nail-file at hand. A fellow-classical guitarplayer i know always carry's some fine sanding paper with him!

Just so you know, at least ONE Yank has been up for a few hours!
I was surprised Proteus didn't put something up on the board before going to bed. I'm guessing he was exhausted by the time Duane and Deke were finished!
Of course, maybe he hasn't even gone to bed yet...
As for fingerpicking: I've been trying to train myself to hold a flatpick between my thumb and index, and have my middle and ring finger do the work usually done by index and middle. I chose this because I thought I'd never be able to do the Setzer thing where he palms the pick. Besides, if he's holding the pick into his palm with his index finger, he can't use the index to fingerpick anyway, can he?

I do exactly the same Will. I hold the pick very close and the nail of my index finger just really wears away. I always have a shape of a moon worn out of it. Totally useless.
guitarmaniac: I'm sure that's true but the nail of my index finger is just very soft compared to the rest. It just bends easily. And the rest are good.
