there's a battered looking one on the rack (left) — but it's right-handed. Or are we talking about the partly hidden one at the back, which looks new, what you can see of it?
good point, i had to check this but he strings it upside down!

Mistake #2 for me Blayd! I'll never learn! No double cut for me; plays better but I don't like the looks.
I forgot about the EC tribute. I would try to get that out of it's aquarium and take that (if it's not lefty
)
Second comes the "Bombs away" paint job.
Third for me is the so far undiscussed collage like job, the "Stage Motel". I dig that. I'm very curious about the technique. How did they do that? It's not a real collage and it would open many possibilities for axe restyling.

"Dave, I would never qualify for being a Sherlock Holmes"
Geoff: I've been a member of the Sherlock Holmes Society of London for the past 25 years — we notice these things! Mind you, I didn't take into account the fact that he might string it the 'wrong' way round. I'm not so smart after all, eh?

My mind is lazy compared to yours, gentlemen.
The original '74 Blond is shining through the spray can black there. I guess he thought black was way cooler than blond wood...

I'm just wondering how long he's been using that guitar — can't be more than a couple of years at most, can it? Perhaps it's been deliberately distressed — or at least suffered 'excessively casual' use — to emphasise the punk ethos, but I can't help but wonder how that matt finish will stand up to more normal everyday use by players who might not mind the used closet classic look, but don't want the full-on 'trainwreck' vibe.
However, I have to say that in this case the 'as used on the Normandy Beaches' look does suit that particular band.
Edit. Ah, right: so the battered axe is an original blonde Baldwin oversprayed way back when. I was assuming it was some sort of prototype resissue he's been road testing for maybe a year or two.

I guess Gretsch isn't using spray can black. It won't hold on the original coating, that's why the wrecked look appeared pretty soon after Tim painted it, I think.

Seems like I have been missing out on something here.
Am I too late?
Do I have to move to the back of the line?
Did you notice that they didn't get the relicing right on the armstrong model....... -

Hi Dan, in short: there's lots of good recordings & video's: Cousin' Harley, Steve Hunter, Civets, Kim playing guitar, Joe Carducci rocking with the Hurricanes. Loads of pictures!
Btw: Duane Eddy left Gibson and has been seen in the Gretsch boot. Proteus is planning to record the Geek-festival, with Duane, as i understand.
More fun to come!

Hey there Will and Geoff. Thanks for the updates. Now I don't have to go through it all...... umm well I actually did anyway. Seems like fun and interesting and .....Duane......
Will, I thought guitar companies did the relicing for us nowadays. It's just so much work to do it yourself......

Well Dan, tell us your axe of choice if you could pick one...
I had to look 5 times at the Beatles Rock Band Guitar Hero commercial, to notice that the Gretsch George receives, has no tuners...
I'm the worst Sherlock ever!

I'd rather relic my guitars the old fashioned way: one chord at a time.

Ah you use chords? I often relic using one note at a time. It just takes such a long time then.....

in this 2002 video it looks freshly painted. the neck is natural though, maybe a reneck?

But it looks more natural if you relic it by playing only pentatonic single note solos!

I noticed that some dissonance will get the lacquer cracking much quicker. I'm good at that, I do it naturally.......

That's the word people use most to describe my playing style. That and "Stop!".

Yeah I get the 'stop' a lot too. And also: NOOOOOOOO!!! (You have to think an echo behind it.....)
