Thanks guys -- and a big smile and bigger thanks (or is it the other way around?) to both Proteus and Gretsch guitars!
Ironcially, the 5120 bug had been steadily biting me for about two months ... so much that I came close on three occasions to pulling the trigger on one. I guess in the end I was holding out for Lady Luck.
I'm looking forward to a whole new world of playing and especially the mods posts in the 5120 section...
And to think the stubborn Irish side of me used to say "I never won nuttin' "

Glad I checked the schedule because it has changed again! We go on right before Tommy Conwell at 5:05 PM, so you could be on your way by 5:30 (theoretically!).
How late does the Gretsch event run?

Not sure, that's a good question - maybe Joe C. can tell us?
My guess is it's a 2 hour event (or less), so it probably wouldn't pay to drive up and arrive at the end.
Dang!
(Here's hoping some other GDP'ers make it up.)

Back home again in Indiana. (Someone turn that song rockabilly, huh?)
My day job beckons - but there's considerable more coverage to follow. My apologies for the delays – there are just too many images, too many audio files, too many stories to tell to get it all done at once.
According to my folder fulla aintdoneyet, there are, to be precise, 160 more pics - bands, people, gear.
To get started, how about Kim's entrace in a hot rod (between two of Saturday night's bands), and the crowd at the Gretsch booth signing up to win an orange 5120?
Here's how it sounded: Click for Joe announcing Kim and giveaways, Kim rolling in (and some stereo hot rod exhaust I couldn't resist.) .

Girls-n-Guitars
I don't suppose it's occurred to anyone to wonder how all the people-n-gits pics happen.
Sometimes Joe or I (or our associates) ask fetching subjects if they'd like to pose with a guitar. (I believe in 7 or 8 events, only one or two people have not been enthusiastic.)
Quite often, people come to the booth and hesitantly ask if they can have their pictures taken with a guitar. Sometimes they have a friend or relative with them armed with camera, and they're surprised we would like a pic as well – more often they expect we'll want pictures.
All know their pictures will appear online, and at this event we handed out cards with the URL to this thread, to make it easier for them to find themselves.
All are flattered, very few embarrassed - and the great majority seem to know instantly how to strike a pose. This makes it fun for everyone involved.
Our spontaneous models may already know which guitar they want - usually because it matches an outfit. Sometimes they want our advice. But in every case, there seems to be something about posing with a Gretsch that just lights people up, and brings out a glow that complements both the guitar and the person. It's extraordinary that posing at the Gretsch booth seems to become "something to do" at an event.
And we're happy to have all ages, sizes, and shapes - shoot, even guys - because it's all about the fun of looking good.
Once the picture-taking starts, there's often a paparazzi clutch of squinting photographers lined up in an arc around the model: Joe, myself, other FMIC staff or visitors, AJ/fjr_wertheimber (at this event), the models' own photographers – and often opportunists who see what's going on and can't help getting in on it.
This is sometimes a little overwhelming to the models, as they have to learn when to look where (assuming we're all patient enough to take turns).
The process looks a little like this:

The Giveaways
After Hillbilly Casino's set, and again after The Chop Tops, Orlando, Joe, and Kim mounted the stage to give away 5120s, drawing a name from entries collected at the booth.
.
The first winner was Christine Houston of San Antonio, Texas.
.
.
And the second winner was Jacob Smith, of Round Rock, Texas - making it a clean sweep for the home team!
.
Later, one of the winners had The Chop Tops autograph their guitar, making it an authentic and unique souvenir of the event.
