Yep. He used to listen to rockabilly when he was young. I remember reading a quote by Lemmy in the 90s, where he said that basically rockabilly was the extreme music of the 50s, and that if Eddie Cochran were alive nowadays and in his 20s (he died at age 21), he would probably "be in a metal band playing a Jap Strat and kicking ass." (sic)
VERY jealous. But since I can't be there, Proteus being there is the next best thing. God Speed.

I saw a Beatles tribute band, "The Eggmen", at Nutty Brown's a couple of years ago. Great place. Seems like it might be a little small for this event, or no?

I think it WAS a little small, but they've since built a really generous covered stage - bigger than that at Stubbs. I'm told it's new this year. I think there will be plenty of room.
I should have mentioned that Kim did a live radio promo yesterday morning on a local station (I'll try to find out which), with an interview and then a live performance by a trio consisting of Danny B. Harvey, Slim Jim (I think), and Chopper Franklin.
We also missed the unofficial kickoff party last night at The Continental Club, featuring three bands - including The Thunderchiefs, who were described to me as a zombie instro surf band. I REALLY wanted to catch that, but after supper at Salt Lick, we were all zombies ourselves.
We're headed to the venue in the next half-hour or so. Joe, who's been out there most of the day getting the Gretsch display set up, tells me it's hot, humid, and windy (which could translate to dusty).
What's live outdoor music without some grit and some sweat?
Proteus is right there is a new and large quality stage. Troy, the Eggmen still play there, too. Good group. 97 and a half degrees right now. Hot mf*r, grit and sweat fer sho'. Be a good night to wash that grit away with a couple of somethins!

6:34; music started right on time with Two Tons of Steel - who sound great with their Texas roadhouse boogie, and I'll get some audio later in their set.
The mood is loose and happy - weather is sunny, not too hot, and with a great breeze.
So far, it couldn't be a better vibe!

Kim tried to sweet-talk this great plumed bird yesterday and got no response - till a Nutty Brown employee said "he only responds to dirty talk."
But Kim wasn't going to go there, so the bird remains unheard.

Ric, On Stage Production is doing all the audio - I believe they're local. Great sound, by the way. Just loud enough, crisp and clean, nothing over-pushed.
Pre-show recorded music was a surprise - light blues, very pleasant, and a great setup for Two Tons, who have now finished their set.
Looks like a great venue and a super cool weekend. Wish it was me standing beside Kim and not Hot Rod Walt.
