So Cal Gretsch Jam, 2017

1

Announcing the First Annual So Cal Gretsch Jam. A one day musical Event and gathering for all Gretsch aficionados and fans of the “G” brand.

Saturday the 12th of August, 2017

The Event will be held in the beautiful and sunny city of Fontana California, located 45 minutes west of the City of Angels, at the American Legion “Steel Town” Post 722. The American Legion Hall is located very near to the Downtown area of Fontana with a Hall, outside patio and a Bar area. There should be plenty of room to set up and play and display your Gretsch Guitars. We will have a run of the place as my Brother is a Legion Commander there, and He has assured us a very pleasant and accommodating venue.

Due to the difficult logistics associated with holding a multiday musical Event in the southern California area ,A One Day event was chosen to help aid those people unable to attend the Gretsch Roundups or to prepare you for your journey to many of the upcoming Gretsch Roundups being held across the U.S. If you have never attended a Roundup, which I highly suggest you do, This One day Gretsch Jam will give you a taste of what the Larger multi Day Roundups are all about ,meeting old friends making new ones and finally getting to reach out and touch those acquaintances that were only available to you in the cyber world.

The Event plan is as follows,,,The doors will open at 10 AM to begin to set up and getting everything music wise sorted out, the Event will kick off at Noon with anyone and everyone invited to join in and play at their leisure. If you have never been to a Roundup, there is no schedule or set times and No pressure to play, everyone is encouraged to join in if they wish or to hang out and listen to the various players that will form up to play some standard songs, Rock N Roll, Country, New Wave whatever fits the bill.

The cost of the SoCal Gretsch Jam is $25 per person , the cost includes a Steak Dinner, which will Consist of New York or Ribeye Steak with baked potato with all the fixins, vegetables and dinner rolls. Salad and dessert are also included. From what I’ve heard, Friday Night Steak Nite at the Legion is very popular and Gretsch Jam attendees will be receiving the same excellent Menu with a few extras. Im told Vegetarian Meals are also available if requested,,, but since Tavo is busy that day I don’t think the Kale and Tofu will be getting used very much, but hey, its available if anyone needs it.

Dinner will be served at the Hall at 5:30 PM . The Music will resume once everyone is finished dining and the tables are cleared. Since it’s a one day Event Im hoping that everyone is well fed and doesn’t need to leave the site as im sure nobody wants to miss out on the music action.

The American Legion is a Veterans Organization that serves and supports its Members thru fund raising Events like the So Cal Gretsch Jam. Sodas , Beer and Drinks are available for purchase at very reasonable rates in the Bar so support your local Vets and buy a few( heck you can buy me a few if you’d like). Im pretty sure We can bring in our own bottled water but I will double check that and make sure.

There is No End time for this Event, Ive been told we can stay and play as long as we like. Liquor sales will end as Law Requires but We don’t have to stop at A set time. We’re going till the wheels fall off!

For those wanting to grab a Hotel/Motel there are a few at a fair distance to the Legion Hall. Im planning on getting one myself and will post Hotel info as soon as I check availability and Rates.

This Event is very informal, that being said Im hoping Taffy (Paul White) performs a few Fingerstyle Solo tunes, If anyone else wants to feels the urge to perform a special song or 2 Im sure we can accommodate you.

More info will be posted as I get it.

So far, I have 2 legit drummers slated to join us, maybe a third, I also have a Bass player who will likely come. Players of all levels are encouraged to come and join in , the more the merrier. Im working on getting a trumpet player and sax player to show up and play, and since they are family im not taking no for an answer.

Thanks for setting this up, Manny! I am only an hour away and have been looking forward to a SoCal roundup since I haven't been able to make the trek to NorCal. Sounds like a blast. Now I just have to plan around the wife's birthday that week...

Bring her along, wives and girlfriends are all invited.

Just a note, 45 minutes west of the City of Angels would be around Catalina Island, and probably pretty wet, so I think Manny meant 45 minutes EAST of L.A., which'll be much better suited to this event.

Whoops! Yes, What Frank said.

Salt water is not good for your Gretsch guitars, so be sure to head east from L.A. Dave and Phil Alvin's (Blasters) father worked at that steel mill that used to operate in Fontana. Dave Alvin makes mention of it in some of his songs. That's a great deal to include a steak dinner. Wish I could attend. Make some beautiful noise!

Giving this Thread a Weekly bump as I recently was told someone didnt even know about the Gretsch Event happening next month in Southern California.

13

I'm looking good for attending and thinking of songs for the playlist. Looking forward to it!
