Dion and the Belmonts were on the northern component of the Winter Dance Party, along with Holly, Valens, and Big Richardson Bopper. None of the band members took the doomed plane, just the name artists themselves.
If I'm remembering aright, there was a southern leg of that same tour, with different artists, touring at the same time.
But that may not be documented on the internet, so let it go for the moment. I could be misremembering.

I find no documentation of a "southern leg" of that tour, at least insofar as you mean a separate contingent on a parallel and simultaneous tour.

Note that the standard-issue alien is surrounded by a rectangular unobtainium cage, and so can emit no harmful radiation. (I wouldn't ever offer an alien in a roentgen-enhancing pyramid.)

(Ripley has already won the EC-book question with "Three Stars." We've moved along to the alien keychain, I just haven't announced the question yet.)
