Super cool event and report!
Thanks!
Super cool event and report!
Thanks!
MAN, WHAT A GREAT THREAD.
Okay, first question for Paul. Do you file your thumb pick? I'm getting where I can flat pick with it, but it's still a bit weird. Do you hold it any particular way? Use a certain kind.
Your vids are great, by the way.
Konrad
great coverage as usual from our roving reporter! Can't wait for the Paul Pigat interview, looking forward to some audio/video of the proceedings.
man I was this close to making it out this year, damn economy.
Chonny, the car show is officially tomorrow. So far the cars shown haven't been "show cars," they've just been peoples' drivers.
I'm sure we'll be Mercuried out tomorrow. Personally, I'm hoping for a hot rod '48 or '49 Buick or Caddy fastback sedanet.
– TECHNICAL ANNOUNCEMENT –
Through the miracles of modern science, bonedaddy has come to the rescue for photo editing: he's picking my raw files up from FTP, working them over on his blazing fast Mac, and uploading them back to FTP for me.
HUUGE help, saves me hours, and will get content up much faster.
So can ah hear a hellyeah? Give it up for bonedaddy, y'all!
– END OF TECHNICAL ANNOUNCEMENT –
2:16 A of M, Las Vegas time ... I'm back in the room after a marathon day. An Evlis impersonator is taking the stage in the Mardi Gras room about now, and while it seems appropriate to come to Vegas and see just such a thing, I'm taking a pass.
Instead I'm working on pics and audio of THIRTEEN bands, which will probably start to make its appearance tomorrow.
Attendance was much higher today than yesterday; around 10:00 they announced the ballrooms (all on the second floor) were over-capacity and herded hundreds of people downstairs, while holding another hundreds in a packed sea of rockabilly humanity at the bottom of the escalator.
At least that was the story. I think zombies and aliens had got loose and were racing the devil in hellbent-for-whiskey hot rods through the ballrooms and they were trying to keep a lid on it.
Don't want stuff like that getting out.
As you might imagine, tonight's finery was even finer than last night's, the crowds were more enthusiastic, and things felt just a bit looser – all of it fueled by some great music.
It's all coming. If you can't be here, at least you get a partial version on a time delay.
More weird science from the atomic age.
hellyeah!
Thanks for making this happen for all of us, Proteus and bonedaddy!!!
More dancers?
We got'em. Tell me if you get tired of them.
More girls with Gretschs? I'm not even close to being out! The guitars are like (can we say chick magnets)?
None of our models has had to be asked twice – and some come up and ask if they can pose with a particular guitar. The color matching is very important.
late to the thread.
Great coverage. Keep it coming.
I've seen some sweet rides in this thread. More please!
Casino, 2 A.M.
WoW!!
Excellent coverage guys!
Great stuff. It looks like everyone is having a helluva lot o' fun. I really have to get out to the next one in person.
But Prot's coverage is the next best thing to being there. And kudos to bonedaddy for stepping up and helping out in a jam. Thanks to both of ya.
One more before I get some sleep...
.
OK, now that I have your attention, I'd like to announce that, besides cars-cars-CARS tomorrow, there's a pretty impressive band roster including:
Suzy Q & the Be Bop Boys
Dale Hawkins
Royal Crown Revue
Deke's Guitar Geek Show
plus 10 or 11 others, give or take...
And the burlesque contest.
What can I say?
Uh, the burlesque contest.
Whoa.
Nobody said there was going to be burlesque contest.
Anyway, I saw your band thread. Any pickers that floored you? THe next Setzer or Pigat or Chet or whomever?
Looks like a great time there in Vegas.
BTW, you might see the Mustangs Across America drive by in Vegas. If you see a car that says Dutchies Across America, say hi from me.
Hellya! Thanks Bone! Great work Pro & Joe!
Here's another HELLYEAH!! for bonedaddy.
Protum says
Race to the venue, take a few pics, record some audio, have an in-depth interview for context and culture, race to the room, download pics, choose crop & edit, download audio, trim and normalize, upload everything to the server, make links of all the files, organize a post and put up some context, and that's about all there's time for.
Piece of cake!
Sounds like work.
Have fun Tim. I'm having a little Rockabilly envy. That young un's got the right idea about dancing with the ladies. Smart kid.
Not much for costumes myself but looks like a cool event, nice coverage. Everyone trying to look different all seem to blend together.
Why do guitars always look so phallic in the hands of a woman that's never played?
Glad I can help out!
Curt said: Why do guitars always look so phallic in the hands of a woman that's never played?Good question, but who's arguing really?
Hellyeah, go Bonedaddy!
Good stuff....man I wish I was there.

What guitars?
