Fantastic. We'll have NAMM, VIP tours and schwag throughout the week - like leftovers, except you won't get tired of 'em!

prot you've been awesome, ive been following every post and it really is 'like im there' same to you, giffenf
thanks
Thanks, xraycat. Happy to do it, though anything I did quickly pales in comparison to what Proteus has done, is probably doing right this minute, and will do for us. I do admit to being a little envious of some of the wardrobe he got to wear and maybe take home with him, but he earned it, believe me.
I didn't show my wife the signed picture of Lynda Kay that says "Frank, You Rock!" when I got home last night, probably best not to have. I'd bring it in to work, but the HR folk probably wouldn't like it if I posted it on the wall next to my desk for all to see.
Joao's set was nothing short of amazing, and to top it off, he gave out signed copies of his CD, which has been in "A" rotation in my car ever since. How does he get that subtle, Bigsby-like sound on a guitar with no Bigsby on it???? Yet another technique to learn this year.
I capped the day off by playing the Jimmie Vaughan and trading licks with another GDPer (sorry, I left your card at home and forgot your name) and being there after they shut the doors and turned up the house lights. Jamie finally kicked us out, despite my offer of more candy, and I left a tired but happy man. Nobody throws a party like Joe C., and nobody covers it like Proteus.

TeamGRETSCH.
Thanks from here too FG - your pics and commentary are much appreciated!
All I can say is FANTASTIC COVERAGE
Great coverage, I felt like I was there! I'm also glad I got to hear the performances too.
Once again, Pro. "Ya dun good!" You really bring the NAMM into our homes and offices. Great work on your part.
Thanks again!!
BTW I'll be placing my Tru-Arc order as soon as the smoke settles and you're back to business as usual.
Edit: The same cudos to giffenf also....you made it all the more interesting. Great job!
Great job to both of you, Gretsch Bros!
I enjoyed every bit of the coverage and especially appreciated the video to take us right to Anaheim with you.
You guys rock (or rockabilly)!!!
Thanks so much for giving us all our NAMM fix.
The best part about it is I feel like I went but my feet don't hurt from all the walking!
Amazing job Proteus and giffenf! You guys really made my weekend!
Tommy59 said: The bandmaster is indeed quite bitchin'. I spent quite a while with Shane and checked it out pretty thoroughly.Best points -- All 'analog' controls. That is to say, no menus, scrolling, etc. Just knobs & switches on the head, and a 4-switch foot box. And, all tubes, in both the preamp and power sections.
Also very cool is the fact that the same exact head comes in a combo box, with the "Deluxe VM" name on it.
Run, do not walk, to your friendly neighborhood authorized Fender dealer, and experience the majesty that is . . . (okay, but you get the idea. I was impressed.)
Great. Just what I need. Amp GAS while I bought a new amp not too long ago.
Before I forget. Thanks to everyone who made all this NAMM coverage possible.
Can honestly say I wasn't able to keep up with it all! (and thereby probably lost out on some of the freebies floating around)
Great great stuff Prot & GiffenF. Maybe next year I'll be able to make it. Unless this is also a SUMMER Namm, then as long as it's within driving distance, I'll stand a chance.
Joe
Great work by Proteus and giffenf. My thanks for all the effort you put into sharing the NAMM experience with us. My thanks also to the others in attendance who shared their experiences with us, and of course thanks to Fred, Joe and the good folks at Gretsch and FMIC for letting us in.
Great Job Pro
Big thanks to Proteus and giffenf, you guys are just plain awesome.
Again, Proteus & giffenf -- hats of to both of you for your wonderful and HUGE coverage! I admite your energy and motivation to do so much for the rest of us in so little time.
Great job, and thank you both very much.
thomas aka Greaser corrected me, saying Proteus, your reports are usually so accurate that I can't let such a mistake pass : the motorcycle is in no way vintage, it's a brand new (although customised) triumph bonneville... now that's better.
Ah - I was paying less attention to the actual bike than to the look they were going for. THAT was the vintage part - or faux vintage custom relic. Or something.
They had a rider in period racing costume as well, who escorted the bike out Saturday night.
It was great to see a bikenrider combo that wasn't Harley and black leather.
Apologies for being inackerate.
The Fred & Joe Show
Saturday afternoon, Joe and Fred did a brief reprise of some of the content of the historical material they presented last summer during their roadshow visits to Gretsch dealers.
You might pick up some new info in here.
What's New in Fender Ampland?
.
The Band Master is back!
Yes, there are new reissues of the Band Master (a soft-spotter for me, as a 60s BM was my first Fender amp) and Deluxe. But maybe it's more accurate to call them new versions of the amps, rather than reissues, as both sport knobs and functions they don't have in vintage form. Fender calls them "Vintage Modified."
To wit, the amps are all-tube, but have digital effects sections.
And, by including fewer effects than you usually get in on-board effect modules, these amps do a much better job of providing what most Fender black-facers want: delay and chorus/vibrato. (Of course ample reverb is there too.) But I wish they wouldn't call it chorus - ah hates chorus. It also operates as a pitch vibrato, and I thought I heard decent tremolo as well. (Wouldn't it be silly to build these withOUT trem?)
Both effects types work simply and straightforwardly, much like pedals would - they're just built into the amps.
.
Fender amp marketing manager Shane Nicholas knew these amps would be of particular interest to Gretschers, so he flagged me down for a short demo.
Shane is a great player, with a real knack for nailing any tone, phrasing, or style he goes for – and, of couse, for wringing whatever's IN an amp, out of it.
Here he has a go at a Band Master stack (and then two stacks).
Band Master Demo 1
Band Master Demo 2
Between the two demos, I asked him if two amps were used, if the modulation sections could be linked somehow so that the tremolo created a push-pull see-saw effect (something I've been playing with recently).
I really liked what I heard.
Audio links don't work.
Fixed.
Sounds impressive. How is it with a little bit of dirt?
That sounds nice and in the ballpark of what I'm looking for (All tube amp with built in effects that I actually will use- no more screwing with pedals). Does anyone know what the street price of the Combo version (the Deluxe VM) will be?
yummy
