Proteus, Thank you for the Great Gretsch Coverage. You've brought the show to us as if we were all there! and let me be the first to ask- if/when you get a chance- would you ask Joe if there's a chance we (GDPers) can get a vinyl sticker reprint of your Gretsch All Access Pass?
...after all, thanks to you, We're ALL at the Show.
...and my Falcon case would be too cool w/ one.
Don't forget to pace yourself- and Thanks again.
Vin

Senojnad said: e absence of this gorgeous guitar on the new price list. I was mistaken. It IS there, page 44.
I apologize for any stress, panic or civil unrest I may have caused, and I have volunteered to fall on my sword.
Your retraction was quick enough to cancel the need to fall on your sword.
Thanks for posting the update, though, as I did panic and start thinking about which shop to call first to try to find one. Gotta get one sometime but now is a bad time for me.

Gretsch NAMMadness, Day 3
It's another sunny day in southern California, and while my wife suffers bravely in sub-zero Indiana, pipes frozen and playing pioneer, I'm gallivanting around NAMM and Larger Paradise, hanging out with GDPers and other of the extended Gretsch family...
So you think I've been doing nothing, huh?
Let me explain that I updated my camera for this tour; I'm taking higher resolution pics, and it takes longer to prep each one to post.
I'm also trying to capture all the live audio that happens on the Kim Falcon Stage – several performers a day – and respond to all the cool opportunities that pop up. This all means there's not enough time to post as often as I'd like.
I have a lot of content to put up this morning; I would have had most of it up overnight, but bonedaddy, Ric12String, Joe, Lindsey from TV Jones, and other friends took an evening to take Joe's legendary Footsteps of Leo tour around Fullerton, catch the Hot Rod Trio at a live gig, and have supper at In-n-Out Burger. (Video of the gig about halfway down the page in this thread.)
A grand time was had by all, and as I slacked off, I consoled myself that I would post content all night. But THEN...the hotel network was all but down, so after fighting it awhile, I submitted and shut down myself.
But only for three hours!
Hang tight – I'll get yesterday caught up with Billy Zoom's and The High Roller's performances, coverage of a killer new Fender amp which ought to be of interest to roots-rockin' Gretsch-heads, and more news and background.
Today on the Kim Falcon Stage, we'll have Bobby Gibson, The twang-o-surfabilly Cadillac Angels, the all-girl punk band Civet, and a very special guest.
Oh - and Kim Falcon at noon!

Is this too cool or what?
It's no secret to the observant that FMIC is a pretty fair hand at lifestyle marketing – selling the sizzle of aspiration and group identification to go along with the tasty steak of legendary product.
But the best "lifestyle marketing" comes by association with people who really live it, rather than scripted models.
That's what's going on with an extraordinary photo series Joe lucked into recently when Joshua Black Wilkins, a talented Nashville photographer, contacted him with the concept for an amazing shoot.
Joshua gathered a group of Nashville musicians active in the rockabilly and roots scene there – like the guys from Hillbilly Casino (and others) – and shot them in an unadorned, gritty style. When they brought in a troupe of burlesque dancers, also from Nashville, the resulting images just nail a lot of things language can't touch.
What's more, every guitar in the shoot belongs to the musician. No props. (Same thing with the apparel, makeup, and "looks.") Wilkins apologizes that some of the guitars were modified: Joe said, "Are you KIDDING me? This is real!"
And that's what these shots are about. (The actual posters are about 24x36.)
.
These are only a few of the images from the shoot; you'll be seeing more of them throughout the coming year. I feel a coffee-table book coming on, and posters for sale. What do you guys think?

Did you know?
Though Dick Dale watched Brophy Dale's performance on the Kim Falcon Stage with interest, Dick and Brophy are not related...
I just wondered, because of the last names. So I asked. Enquiring minds, and all that.

Synchromatic Series Named Players' Choice
Check out this plaque: Gretsch received this award from a trade publication last year in honor of the entire Synchromatic acoustic archtop series. They really are sweet guitars, and every time I see one, I get the wants all over again.
Then I remember I have no business pretending to play jazz.

Curt, yes, I should have mentioned – Dick looks much better than he did last year, and everyone seems much relieved about his condition.
He's keeping a lower profile at the show, though, instead of playing all over the place. Good enough; we should take care to conserve all our natural resources.

And what's with the "art guitars?"
Remember Lucky & Jolly Roger?
.
These are follow-ons to the Red Baron Custom Shop 6120 of several years go. They don't represent a new series of production guitars: each is a one-off, truly scratch-built by Stephen Stern. After the artists execute their designs, Stern finishes the overall patina of the instruments. They really are beautiful in person.

It's NAMM, it's Saturday, it's crazy – and Gretsch is doing everything in its considerable power to add to the madness. Bobby Gibson is keeping things mellow on the Kim Falcon Stage, playing his blond 6122-59 (with a copper Tru-Arc bridge), but anticipation is building for Kim's entrance at noon. (Catch Bobby's set here.)
There's also a line out the door for George Fullerton, of early Fender fame, who is signing autographs in the Fender Custom Shop area.
So things are hopping.
Then there's all this.
.
All of which is fine.But...well, we know the guy in the Gretsch shirt, and Jamie to the right, but who's the cat on the left? Joe says his band is playing on the Kim Falcon Stage at 2:00. We hope word doesn't get around the hall, or it will be crawling room only.
You know that crazy Joe...always a surprise.
