  4. That is a freaking steal!!! I love my Playboy!!

  5. its a peashooter wattage amp with EL84s, of course the close out price will end up at least $850! ($699 is a pipe dream)

not to mention these are Victoria amps and a comparible Victoria with styling like a gretsch playboy is well over 2K

or even one of my favorites; Tophat

  6. When there gone there gone ! 999.00 just get one ,you will never be SORRY ............

  7. A word to the wise: Rocky told me at the Balto-DC Roundup he's down to his last four Playboys.

I got his last A-stock Executive. He may still have one B-stock.

He seems to be getting the last of what's in the warehouse, so if you want a new one...

"Peashooter wattage" :D -- Tavo, you must visit my basement someday. I have thermonuclear options down there that would warm your heart and ears.

  8. So could you gig with one of these or are they more of a nice amp to play in your living room? The specs sound cool but 15 watts sounds a little weak...my Super Champ has 15 watts.

  9. I have the Executive and love it. Was thinking of getting a Playboy...just cuz but don't think I will. LOVE the Exec !

you could surely play a small club but..a 15watt push/pull amp is not gonna stay clean especially if you have to play over a heavy handed drummer. If you have the luxury of a good monitor mix on stage then its not a problem if its mic'd and you have a clean feed through the monitor and the monitors are good enough that they are not gonna crap out with both the singers voice and your guitar going through. I personally love my vibrochamp I've hopped up to 12watts but its a dirty bluesy sweet mess contending with a drum kit and bass.

this thing isnt pushing 6L6's its pushing EL84s. You can get a lot from a duet of EL84s, Tophat amps does it with their Club Royale at 18watts but not clean. (meaning not enough headroom when the amp is dimed and a pedal board running though it on stage with a band)

  11. Probably not what I'm looking for right now...but it's super cool! There's so much limited edition/last time it'll be made in guitarland...they have my number!

Tavo , you were right about my the problem with my amp by the way...if you remember my question. Loose tube connection.

    Brad

  12. Why no reverb...everybody likes reverb

  13. Yeah, Dusty. No reverb, but it has tremolo. Go figger.

  14. I never use amp reverb. Lexicon guy here. LXP-1

  15. Yawn... I'll take a JCM800 any day of the week ;-) ;-)

  16. It looks like they might all be gone. Bummer. I finally raised enough cash for one!

  17. Yawn... I'll take a JCM800 any day of the week ;-) ;-)

    – Bonedaddy

I'm with el bonedido.. gotta be at least 50 watts

  18. bonedaddy dont you play a Marshall Haze and a princeton

  19. Yeah I don't need it, I use my re20, but I wouldn't have turned it down ifn they would have offered it!

Oh it is very loud! Loud enough to make my ears ring but not loud enough to fill a huge open sided fair ground building. I had mine turned all the way up and it had a nice crunch to it. Playing in a huge building is ok, but way too crunchy. Doesn't anyone mike their amps? The tone is wonderful out of this amp and if I played large halls, I would just mike it up and go through the PA. I tell you this amp is incredible with the Black Falcon with dynas, it just seems to be made for it.

  21. I am with you, bobcat. The Gretsch amplifiers are like this well-kept secret. They deliver a nice, broad tonal spectrum with a wonderful tone. Great low ends, nice highs, and the reverb (on the Executive) and the tremolo are very nicely implemented.

  22. Any Gretsch will sound good in a playboy !

  23. Yeah. But it looks like that was Rocky's last one.

  24. I gig with my playboy. We play a place with no mics accept vocals once in a while and as long as you use your guitar volume control you're golden. Personally I run a fryette sas in front and it really is just the dream combo. Have a little tc reverb for when I need it... Oh and the built in Trem in this amp is rich and deep. We're a pretty loud rock band and other guitar player runs a 40 watt hotrod. The playboy keeps up just fine. Only real complaint is the control panel is a bitch to read.

Its a relative thing,I remember it being piercing when turned up yes but not "I feel the notes" loud, by the time you get the SPL up enough its no longer clean.. ) I blame the mediocre eminence legend for breaking up too brittle too soon.

doesnt mean you cant pull out the not so hot stock speaker. donate it to science and go for something much more tone-FULL :
