Which usb mic, any suggestions?

  1. Hi all, I've just started to figure out garageband and try to make some simple multiple track recordings. Garageband seems to work pretty well and it's fairly easy to learn to operate. The things I recorded was with the built in mic in my laptop, which I placed in front of my amp, and for the other tracks in front of the acoustic guitars, and in front of my girlfriend who sings. But now I want a microphone to get a decent sound. Still, nothing fancy or expensive, say around $100,- What are your thoughts about the Samson meteor, and the Blue snowball? Are there any other mics I should consider? For now I'm just looking for a cheap usb mic to plug directly into my Macbook, so no midi interface thingies (yet). I would appreciate your input! Thanks in advance!

  2. I picked up the Blue Snowball for my daughter. She uses it with her Macbook Pro. Seems to work pretty well in terms of picking up her playing without grabbing too much background noise. For $75 (Amazon price) it's a solid mic.

  3. Thanks! I'm still reading reviews of different mics, but I think I will choose one tomorrow.

  4. Another plug for the Blue Snowball. I've had mine for 6 years now. It works very well.

  5. Love my Snowball! Done everything from podcasts to recording my guitar rig. Love it!

  6. I have a Sanson Q1U dynamic and an MXL 990 USB condenser and I like both of them a lot and they have been trouble free and sound great to me; and both were under $100.00.

  7. Another vote for the Blue Snowball. Sounds greats, works great.

  8. The BLUE Yeti sounds nice and it's multi pattern. But it looks ridiculous and is hard to stand mount.

The sE2200USB rounds like a very decent low budget condenser and has the optional XLR analogue output.

But personally, if I needed a USB mic, I'd buy a Mic Port Pro adaptor. You can plug any conventional mic into that and the analogue output is converted to digital via USB. All the usual on board monitoring/headphone output stuff is built into the Mic Port Pro.

That way you don't need to differentiate between USB mics and regular mics and every one of the mics you currently own can be connected via USB.

  9. Thanks everybody! So there's more votes for te Blue Snowball, and I see it has a lot of good reviews. I think that's what I'll choose. I'll decide later today. I don't think i want an adaptor, because I then it would be better to go for the even more expensive midi interface. For now I just want it to be, mic --> usb --> Mac. Thanks for the input!

  10. I have the Blue Yeti. It's a step above the Snowball and not that much more expensive. It's AWESOME. I've had it for a while now. I mainly record acoustic stuff on it.
