Tru-Arc for RHH?

  1. Hi everyone

I tried to email Proteus about this but I guess he's busy filling orders and getting ready for NAMM.

I have a 6120RHH and I use Thomastik .11 flatwounds on it. I have the usual symptoms of strings popping out of the bridge and some vibration and am going to bite the bullet on a Tru-Arc bridge for it. My questions are:

    1. which metal choice sounds best with the RHH (I'm leaning towards the aluminum for a slightly brighter sound and to compensate for the flatwounds which sound a bit dull in comparison to wound). Anyone ever put an aluminum or SS Tru-Arc on a RHH? How about copper or brass?

    2. Does the Tru-Arc accomodate the pinned bridge of the RHH? or is this a modification I will need to make to the bridge?

    Thanks in advance Brian

  2. Popping out of the bridge? Never heard of that...

    I have a 2005 6120 RHH. I think any Tru-Arc is a "drop-in" on the existing bridge used with the ABR/Tun-A-Matic.

I just happened to put the current Gretsch rocking bar bridge on mine prior to Proteus' product launch. The RHH has the 12" radius, maybe the only Gretsch in production that can use the stock RBB w/o issue...

I've always wanted to try different materials for the bar bridge. I'm sure if I tinkered I'd have them all. "Mass" affects tone considerably for a saddle/bridge assembly, and depending on your objective going one way or the other will define the sound you seek.

  3. Mac has a copper TruArc on his RHH I think, maybe he'll chime in.

Used to happen to me on my RHH too. I hate Tun-a-matic bridges.

And I do indeed have a copper tru-arc on my RHH, dropped right on the existing base. The copper is good for me but since you use flatwounds you'd probably benefit more from the Stainless or Aluminum.

  5. Thanks guys, Tim emailed me back with his thoughts as well. I appreciate the help.

  6. Just put a stainless Tru-arc on a 6119 w/ TV Jones PUs. Absolutely great addition. Put an aluminum TA on my R8 LP w/ Bigsby. The aluminum helped with clarity and definition on the neck PU. Definitely made it a bit brighter and more articulate. IMO, You have a great guitar...get a great bridge...good luck...

  7. Ordered up an aluminum Tru-Arc for the 6120-RHH. Once the NAMM craziness is over and Proteus gets back from his journey to La-La Land, I'll get mine delivered and let you guys know how it sounds.

    Thanks
