How to Mod a Boss DM3 for 9V

  1. I have two of these DM3's and have been running them on 9V and have read they should be modified and will sound even better is this true? Anybody done this? If so any links to how with pics would be helpful. I have tried to search this topic and would really like to hear from someone that has been there and done that. Or someone who can do it that I can pay. TAVO you owe me buddy:D

  2. Mine sounds better when I put 12v through it. As I understand it, the mod does (effectively) the same thing... in which case I would recommend it.

  3. there are sooooo many topics on this forum if you enter DM-3 in the search engine. :)

  11. Thanks T!

You're a prince in motion and a scholar in repose.

  12. Not to edge in on Tavo cause he is the man but heres an upclose pic of my mod. I did the diode too, why?.. Cause im a badass 8-)

  13. Awesome, many thanks! Did dropped part find its way out or did ya leave it in?

  14. Thanks TAVO as soon as I get home I'm going to do this to one of my DM3's. Super cool video can you put it up on you tube as well?

  15. its a public video on my nocturne owners facebook page it should be accessible to anyone right?

Oh and I was gonna say that while I have posted in the past or like Jayce just posted, you can jumper out that diode if you want, but I didnt bother to show that in the video because I know someone will show up and remind us that once that diode is out and you have a problem with your power supply or you are lazy and leave one of your daisy chain jacks uncovered (the sleeve is positive and if it touches the outside of a pedal box, which is ground thats bad, voltage spikes happen that way) the analog delay's chips are at risk.

@ slick, yessir I got that bugger out of there after as I continued on with my other mods on the pedal such as replacing the 100uf 16v with a 50v fresh electrolytic. those things really start drying out after about 10-15yrs and how old is that DM-3 if it was made in 1984? Plus this particular pedal had that stupid ring-ping thing happening at its max delay time so I had to move the trim back a nudge on it as someone fooled with it to increase the delay time at the cost of a compromised slapback signal.

  16. Just did the mod on both of mine took less than 10 minutes a pedal. It was very easy thanks to you TAVO.

  17. good work raye! its a cool little mid just makes powering it that little bit easier :)

  18. Thanks!

  19. Just did my Japanese CE-2 easy all you have to do is jump between number 3 and 4. Yellow and Blue wires. They are numbered on the board. The easiest way is to pull them out as Tavo demonstrated on the DM3. Strip the wire back so you can push them clear through the board and twist them together and solder them on.

  20. a CE-2 can actually not sound like a Miami Vice soundtrack by a small mod to the speed pot, and you will get a faster watery vibrato out of the effect. As nice as the CE-2 is I'm a fan of the ibanez chorus much more, its fatter/chewy
