Thanks guys, I agree. After I recut the saddles to space out the strings, I see that it doesn't affect the tone (not that I notice anyway).
For me, however, I'm glad I did it because the added spacing helps a tiny bit for my chording.

All my pick-up screws line up perfectly with all the strings.

What's the distance from your High E to Low E notch? If it's 2 inches and you're pole spread is 2 inches then your 6 strings might be centered over your 6 pole screws but each string cannot be centered over its corresponding pole.

I think it's more critical on Hilotrons. They need all the magnetic juice that's available. Just re-worked a Bigsby bridge for my Tennessean (radius and spacing), and it made a noticeable improvement.
